Remove the top hinge pin and bend it slightly with a hammer. Repeat for each pin, until door remains open.

For 18 years we have lived in this house with a door that would never stay open. After several attempts to remedy the problem, I tried this and it worked like a charm. Who would have thought that something this simple would work.
