Mr. Spugsley is a 2 year old Cairn Terrier/Chihuahua mix. We brought him home on New Year's Day of 2007. I found him on craigslist.
He likes to shred brown paper bags or toilet paper rolls, chase tennis balls, and sometimes just snuggle.

What a cutie! He looks similar to my Lily, who is a long-hair chihuahua mix (we believe mixed with some kind of terrier). Does he have more of the terrier personality, or the chihuahua personality?
He has the energy of a terrier combined with the sensitivity and the getting easily spooked of a chihuahua. He's a wild one.
What a sweet little dog! We also have a "cairnhuahua" that we found on craigslist. We love our little Foxiianna (she's a brindle) and her personality is like you described, high energy, and is spooked somewhat easily.
Joy is the exact word. He's not a really snuggle dog. His times that he wants to snuggle are only when he is sleepy or spooked by something. But he always wants to play. He hasn't really lost that puppy-ness. Like you, I can't imagine our house without him.

My dog Iggy looks just like your Mr. Spugsley right down to the one ear up one ear down! We adopted him from a shelter about 3 1/2 years ago. They said he was about 4 years old.
