Ingredients:
  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 2 cups bread crumbs (remove crusts and crumble fine)
  • 1 small onion ( grated)
  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 cup scalded milk (pour over bread crumbs)
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions:

Mix meats and bread crumbs, onion, eggs, half and half and seasonings. Chill overnight or several hours. Roll into 1 inch balls and brown. Make gravy using flour as thickening. Pour over meatballs and simmer in oven for about 1 hour. Beef brother or bouillon cube improves the gravy.

Thanks for your Grandma's meatball recipe. I always seem to like homemade better. When shopping at Sam's I only buy their hamburger that's on Quick Sale. That takes the price down considerably. I use shredded zuchinni too if a recipe calls for ground beef. It has almost no flavor, but adds moistness, and nutrition. The kids don't know they're eating vegetables. I'm going to try your recipe next time I make a batch of meatballs, or meatloaf for that matter.

I personally, don't think you can beat buying the frozen meatballs in a bag at Sam's Club. Six pounds @$9.38 = $1.56 per pound and don't have the hassle of making the meatballs and have an ample supply on hand. They are good too!

I have used the meatballs in spaghetti sauce for appetizers ... none were left!
