Resetting a Car Remote?

My car remote just stopped working in the winter. It was working fine before. It's not due to bad handling, that's for sure, and it's not broken. Any tips on how I can reset it at home, instead of taking it to the mechanic? Thank you.

This sounds like it could be the remote control battery so you need to investigate what battery replacement and how to remove and replace.

My first thought was battery too. Some you can change yourself - they are small flat batteries available in hardware stores, and then others must be done by the dealer.
