We not only did our taxes way before they were due we filed them electronicly via the internet for free and received our refund in less than 2 weeks. We intend to do the same this year.
In Canada at least, if you don't owe money, it doesn't matter if you are late, although you just don't get your refund money as promptly. Also, filing your taxes online is much faster. There are many good programs to use that make it very easy.
