Ingredients

  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 cup sour milk (3/4 cup milk + 1/4 cup lemon juice)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. soft shortening
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 1/2 cups flour

Directions

Mix beaten eggs, milk, sugar and shortening. Blend well. Add flour and other dry ingredients. Stir well. On floured board, pat part of the dough 1/3 inch thick. Cut with donut cutter. Fry at 370 degrees F. until golden brown on one side, then turn over and fry other side. Drain on paper towels. Shake in a bag with white sugar while still warm. If in a hurry, drop dough in by the teaspoon or with a cookie dough scoop for donut holes.
