Small Broom Wall Decor

These 6 inch brooms can be made to match any decor, and made for your own use or as gifts, used as gift tie-ons, or sold at a craft fair. Although I haven't tried it yet, I'm thinking they might even be a cute addition to a summer wreath. My brooms were particularly cost effective to make as I purchased all of my materials at garage sales.

Toby (Yorkiepoo)

This is Toby. He is an 8 month old Yorkiepoo. I bought him at a flea market. He loves to play catch. He's my other little angel!

Buy Clothes on Ebay

I have two teenagers. I buy all of their clothing off of Ebay for less than I would pay in stores. Some are brand new, some are gently used. I bought my daughter 6 shirts all with tags for $12.00. I also bought my son 2 name brand shirts for $10.00, they sell for 14.99 in the store.

Turn Off Water When Brushing Teeth

On TV I saw some quick info. The one that impressed me the most was the fact that they said if you leave the water running when you brush your teeth, it wastes three gallons of water. You may not agree with the 3 gallon assessment, but how about if you just turn the water off until you need it?

Cheap and Easy Window Cleaning

Spring cleaning has arrived and time to clean all your windows. This year I purchased an empty spray bottle for $1.00 and a gallon jug of windshield washer cleaner for $1.69. I use a squeegee for a streak free shine. Cheapest way and easy way to clean those dreaded windows.

Buy Gas Midweek

I have heard more than once that gasoline prices are lower in the middle of the week (Tues., Wed.) than on the weekend.

My Mom's "Lid" Drawer

My Mom has always had a drawer in the kitchen that all of us kids called the "lid drawer." There are always more lids than containers to match and it is always the one drawer that you have to yank open. Usually that is because there are too many lids and/or the rubber band ball has gotten too big. My Frugal Life And, every time you force it open, out come the bread ties, spare string wrapped around a pencil that hasn't been sharpened since 1959, and a small super ball that looks like an eye ball that I placed in the drawer for safe-keeping in 1964. It was the place to go in the time of need for something of aid when in dire straits.

When my eyeglasses broke one weekend in the fifth grade, I went to the lid drawer for a bread tie. Socks falling down? "Get a rubber band out of the lid drawer." You could always find some spare change in there, too. I had a falling out with the lid drawer in the Seventh Grade when a friend spent the night and turned her mouth in disgust when asking for a paper clip for her book report. "Look in the lid drawer," I said. "The WHAT drawer? We only use Tupperware."

Until recently, when my fiance helped me pack my kitchen while moving after living at the same residence for fourteen years, I had wiped the memory of the "lid drawer" from my mind.

"You're gonna throw out this stuff, aren't you?" he asked after jerking open the drawer in the far corner of the kitchen.

"Nnnooo! Don't touch that drawer," I yelled.

"What do you need all of the lids for? You don't have that many containers. And what the heck do you need all of these wine corks for? This is all junk."

"Junk!? How do you think we store all of the leftovers that you cook? And when I start all of my seedlings in the spring, are you gonna wipe up the water that leaks out? No. Because I put those lids underneath the pots. And when you get around to staining that table, are you just going to let the stain just drip all over the floor? And what about when we can't find a coaster? Are you gonna let that drink put a ring on your newly-stained table? And . . ."

My fiance pulled the lids out of the trash and packed them up to move to their new drawer. I realized that you can't fight frugality . . . and why? At least I don't keep a rubber band ball. My brother does.

Remembering To Take Items With You

Tips for remembering to bring items with you when you walk out the door.

By The Front Door

Whenever I need to remember to take anything with me I leave the item or items by the front door so that I will see them as I leave.

By Robin

Block The Front Door

Put them in front of the door so that the item blocks you from opening the door. If I don't do this I just walk right past the item.

By Mari

Count The Items

This works like magic. Count all the items you can't leave your house without (for me it's keys, money, phone, ID, cigarettes). Remember that that's 5 items (maybe differnet for you). Before you leave, count to make sure you have your X number of items. It broke the habit of leaving stuff for me. You can also make up a word/sentence, with a letter for each item you need to get.

By Sam

Hang a Bag on the Door Knob

Hanging a small bag on the door knob of your front door to hold keys, lipstick, address or to-do book, pen, etc. will make sure that you take everything essential with you when you run out the door. Toss mail to be mailed that day, a shopping list, your daily coupons, a watch, or anything else you need, into that little bag and as you run out the door, grab it and put it into your chosen purse or handbag of the day!

Candle Too Big For Candle Stick?

Candles too thick for your candle holders? Just dip the end of the candle into hot (just boiled) water for a few moments to soften the wax, immediately push the candle into the candle holders and the excess will be pushed out of the way.

Use Lotion When Doing Paperwork

When going through paper work keep lotion on hand. This makes the paper easier to grab and helps to prevent paper cuts.

Substitution For Non-Dairy Creamer

Have you read the ingredient list for non-dairy powdered creamer? Kinda scary. I love the price and the way it tastes and flavors my coffee, though. I am looking for a replacement that is just as creamy. I don't like milk or half and half. Just curious if anyone else has any creamy substitutions? (I don't like flavored creamers either).

Thanks so much, just trying to be healthier!
