Before I bought the spice Ginger, I wanted to try it. It costs $3.59 for the small jar! The produce manager suggested to break off a piece of the "root" and try that! I bought a piece about the size of a finger for 12 cents! Twice the amount I needed for my recipe!
You also can freeze the root by placing it in a small freezer bag until you need it again. Saves going back to the store when you need it. Ginger is very good when shredded and placed in sauces for chicken or meat.
