Area Rug Placement in Room With a Diagonal Fireplace

What is the rule for the placement of area rugs with a diagonal fireplace which juts out into the room? The rest of the room is a rectangle with an open (wall) at the opposite end from the fireplace.

Basically, anything that you think looks nice. The rug placement will probably have some connection to how you have place your other furniture. Just try different arrangements and see what suits your taste, as well as the normal flow of foot traffic in your home.
