Decorating for a School Masquerade Ball

I am hosting the NJROTC military ball this year for my high school. Our theme is a masquerade, but we can't think of any good decoration ideas. We're on a tight budget and have limited space. Any help?

Decorating for a School Masquerade Ball

How can I set up a school dance party with the colors: purple, white, and silver? Our theme is masquerade ball.

Wow! Purple, white and silver for a masquerade party is a wonderful combination. You don't say in your inquiry the ages of the children attending the party. But, nevertheless, you can tailor it to suit the needs of any age group. Mardi Gras! Make it a mardi gras themed party and you will never go wrong. It can also be very inexpensive. Orientaltrading.com carries everything you will need if you have even a modest budget. Their online site or catalog can also be used as inspiration for hand made items. Glitter, crepe paper, balloons, card stock, poster board, cheap bead necklaces, etc., in your color scheme could be all you need. Use your imagination. Craft masks, decorations, and anything else you'd like and you'll have a winner. If you need more ideas, let me know. (11/21/2009)

Masquerade and those colors make me think of the old Harlequin masquerade characters. Large diamond shapes in your colors cut from any stiff material could be suspended on strings or taped to walls. Masks of all eras and types would be cool, too, either the actual masks, replicas, or silhouettes. (Again, if you're doing silhouettes, these can be suspended or taped to the wall.) I encourage you to read about masquerade traditions and the Harlequin characters if you decide to go with this idea. You'll find all sorts of ideas! (11/26/2009)
