I make a dessert using the microwave for one serving. 1/2 cup ouick cooking oatmeal or 1 pkg. of any flavor instant oatmeal, 2 tablespoon margarine or butter melted, 2 tablespoon brown sugar, any kind of dessert spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.) 1 peeled and cored medium apple. Put the sliced apples into a microwaveable small bowl. Mix the other ingredients and sprinkle over the apple slices. Microwave for 2 minutes. Let it cool for a few minutes. Save Socks for Dusting

When white socks are starting to wear out and they are ready to toss out... DON'T. Save them for dusting and polishing furniture. Slip one over your hand and ole, a freebie dust cloth. If you prefer, you can coat them with a light spray of PLEDGE (or whatever other brand you prefer). HAPPY DUSTING.

Freeze Stains with Hairspray

Carry a travel-size can of hair spray in your purse. It doesn't take up much room. If you accidentally stain your clothes with an ink pen, wine, lipstick or practically anything, spray the stain with the hairspray. It will "freeze" it until you can clean it. It works! No ancient chinese secret! I have saved many a garment with a small can of Rave!

Inexpensive Meal: Eat Breakfast for Dinner

At least once a week, have breakfast for dinner, eggs are so inexpensive. And there are so many ways to prepare them, omelets, pancakes, french toast. A half dozen eggs and a loaf of day old bread can feed a family of 4, and that whole meal would probably cost under $2.

Peeling and Preparing Vegetables

When cooking, making salads, peeling and preparing vegetables, I lay an open plastic grocery bag in my sink bowl to hold the waste. When I'm finished cleaning, peeling, cutting, etc. I then tie the bag, throw the whole thing in the trash. Makes for very easy clean-up.

Grocery List Strategy

I use the back of an envelope affixed to the refrigerator with a magnet to write my ongoing grocery list. Then when I'm ready to go to the store, I select the coupons I need and put them right in the envelope.

Make Your Own Sports Drink

This is an easy to make alternative to some of the name brand sports drinks. If you are exercising for more than 30 minutes you may benefit from a fluid-replacement sports drink.

- 1 can orange juice
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 3/4 teaspoon salt (Optional: use for heavy or long workouts)
- water

Mix the ingredients with enough water to equal 1 gallon. Store in the fridge. If this solution is too sweet, add extra water to the solution. The salt in this drink will give the electrolytes you need for a long work out.

An even easier recipe: 1 cup of orange juice, 1 cup of water and a pinch of salt.

General Tips: Drink 1 to 2 cups of fluid 30 minutes before you exercise and 1/2 to 1 cup of fluid every 15 minutes of exercise.

Money Saving Tip: For mild workouts or short workouts water will provide sufficient hydration and save you money. Having said that, a better tasting beverage may encourage you to drink more liquids which is important when working out for any duration.

Home remedy for my dog's yeast infection in her ears.

My 1 1/2 year old mutt is continually getting yeast infections in her ears. The ointment we get from the vet is very expensive and was wondering if anyone knew of a home remedy. Supposedly this is caused by allergies. Thanks so much!
