Hello,
This has been one of our busiest weeks ever at ThriftyFun. All the great contributions make publishing this newsletter a lot of fun.
Father's Day is coming up, does anyone have any good Father's Day ideas? We are working on the Father's Day section and should have it up early next week.
Gas prices are very high right now, it will make travelling, recreation and commuting very expensive this summer. If anyone has any tips for helping deal with this, send them in.
Next week we want to feature some inexpensive recipes in the ThriftyFun News, if you have any inexpensive recipes ideas, send them in. Grocery bills are sure to rise this summer due to higher fuel costs for shippers.

New Brainstorm:
Uses for Aluminum Pie Pans
I have a ton of aluminum pie pans. I never want to throw them
away. I know I can recycle them and use them for baking, does
anyone know any other uses for these pans?
And we already have a response:
Aluminum Pie Pan can be used for tons of things!
- Fill with homemade cookies or candies, wrap in color plastic
wrap and give as a gift.
- Use as trays for sorting beads, pins, craft items, etc.
- Poke a hole at the rim, thread a few on a string and hang over
a garden to keep birds away.
- Give to kids to play with. They'll think of plenty of uses for
them.
- Use as a holder for decoupage glue
- Fill with potpourri and with a clay like dough strips cover the
top so it looks like a pie
- Grow sprouts for salads, herbs for cooking
- Fill with sand, place a pillar candle or several votive candles
in to the sand, scatter some shells around for a quick
centerpiece.
- Use up leftovers to make pot pies.
Hopefully these ideas will help.

Today's Tips
Free Coffee Grounds for Your Garden at Starbucks
Starbucks gives away bags of used coffee grounds free for the asking. Dump some on the ground of roses and other acid-loving plants and water. The coffee breaks down and feeds the plants and my roses have never been more beautiful or prolific. By Linda

Cleaning a Can Opener Blade
To clean a can opener, whether it be an electric or a hand crank one, place a folded piece of paper towel around the edge that cuts the top of the can off and proceed to have the edge go through the process that you use to cut. You will find that the end result is a nice clean edge. (and no broken fingernails to worry about). Happy cleaning. By Joesgirl

Keep Your Car Upholstery Free From Sun Damage
Faded upholstery and a cracked dashboard will lower the resale value of your car. Use an accordian-style cardboard windshield screen whenever you park in a sunny spot, and preserve your investment! These shields only cost a buck or two, and sometimes they are even free when they advertise a local business! By Becki in Indiana

Keep Baby Wipes Handy in Your Car
I keep a container of baby wipes in the car for quick cleanups -- the dust that accumulates on the dash board, spilled juice, muddy puppy paws. Saves on time and stress (from constantly looking at a dirty car interior).

Treatment for Skinned Knees
When your children get skinned knees, a better cleaner is aerosol shave cream. The kids love the foaming action, and it doesn't sting like soap. Then wipe off gently with a damp soft cloth. Repeat if needed. Then apply your favorite antibiotic ointment (the ones with lidocaine help soothe the pain) and a bandage. By Sharon in WI

Unclogging a Shower Drain
When the drains in our house get sluggish, here's what I do. Pour some baking soda in the drain (about 1/2 cup), then about the same amount of white vinegar. Immediately pour in a couple cups of boiling water, and plunge with the plunger. This will loosen and pull up to the top any thing caught in the drain or pipe. This is especially effective with hair in the tub or shower drain. By Sandi

Green Scrubbies for Potatoes
The best potato scrubber I've ever used is the Scotch brand green scrubbies (the ones without soap). They really clean the potato, don't leave any residue and they are cheap to use (can be used until they practically fall apart). By Sharon

Removing Gum from Hair
Gum in hair. no problem. Rub a teaspoon of peanut butter in the gum. Rub a few minutes and it dissolves it completely. Then just wash peanut butter out of hair. All moms have freaked out over a hunk of gum in kids hair. No cutting of beautiful hair with this solution. By Paula Findley

5 Simple Tips for Making Sauces at Home
By GatewayGourmet
Making a sauce at home for your grilled steak or sauted chicken breast can turn something good into something better. If you are like most home cooks, you may shy away from taking on a wild mushroom sauce or classic Marsala Sauce.
