Craft: Tile Art - Painting Tiles

I received some tiles as a free sample, they were about 2"x2". As you can see they were just plain white. I did a stencil painting on one and on the other I painted then added a pretty butterfly sticker. I had another that I decoupaged on but my mom loved and it's at her house. I bought a little gold easel from Walmart for .58 cents. The tiles were free, I already had paint, stencils, and stickers so all this craft cost me was the .58 cents for the easel.

Craft Project: All-American Desk Sitter Kids

My daughter Julie is volunteering this summer, teaching English to under privileged kids in Egypt (See her photo. She has blog, too: Julie's Egypt Blog).

She was looking for craft ideas, so I came up with these kids to sit on their desks. I had not used the little foam hands and feet before, but they are what makes theme so cute, and the fingers will bend around the flag to make it realistic. Since the hands and feet are in many sizes, you could make funny ones with great big feet, or whatever.

Craft Project: Soap Fish

This is a vintage pattern that was originally made with an oval bar of Sweetheart Soap. Since Sweetheart Soap is no more, you will have to improvise. The soap that I have used for this pattern was found at the Dollar Tree Store. The fish in the picture at the right is sitting on the box that the soap came in.

Tips:

Craft: Concert T-Shirt Pillows

What to do with all those old concert tees? You can't get rid of them - way too many groovy memories.

So I sewed them in to pillows, but left them in tee shirt shape. They are so comfy and the neck part fits right under your neck!

I used fun bright embroidery thread to make the colors on the shirt really pop!

Use Extra Fabric As Wall Hangings

Can't figure out what to do with all that extra fabric hanging around in your crafting bags?

I used a hot glue gun to put it on square blocks of wood and then found funky upholstery tacks to put around the edges.

Put em up on the wall, and the room just pops with color!

Digital Camera Memory Card Identification

Camera memory cards can be misplaced easily or stolen. To insure return of a memory card, a person can make a computer business card with pertinent information regarding their name, address, phone number, email address, etc. A statement - "If this memory card is found, please return to the owner listed on this sign" should be included on the ID sign. When the memory card contents are deleted, a picture of the ID sign is made and kept on the memory card until the memory card contents are deleted again. The sign font should be large enough so a person who might find the misplaced memory card inserts into a computer, the memory card ID information can be read and the memory card can be returned to the rightful owner.

Source: My daughter found a digital camera card memory card; she took it home and inserted it in the computer; family photos were on the memory card plus a picture with two boys holding a sign with a phone number on it; she called the phone number and was able to locate the owner of the memory card. When she relayed this story to me I thought that a memory card ID could be made by memory card owners to protect their precious memories.

Ideas For Old Photos

I have taken apart a box of photos in the process of organizing my house. I have a small bag of trash, photos of folks I don't know and doubles but I have many black and white photos from my aunt and uncle. I don't know the people. What can I do with them? There are some pictures of advertisements, families, old cars and trains and landscapes. Any ideas?

What can I make with these items?

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do with these objects? I've saved gobs of them. A description of the objects are as follows:

  • One is a key that opens a can of corn beef hash.
  • The white Styrofoam circle and the small clear plastic cap are both inserts to the blue object that is a top for a water cooler bottle.
I wanted to make a cool game or craft project for my step children when we all visit together. The large blue piece makes an excellent stack toy, but the other pieces I have no ideas for them. Please share your ideas...

Thanks,

Ordering From LTD Commodities

Is anyone else having a problem with LTD Commodities? I asked because up until a day ago, I could place orders without having to put in credit card information online. Now they want credit card information online. So I waited until LTD Commodities were closed and placed my order over the phone and it's a computer that you're talking to. It will ask if you want to be billed by credit card or by invoice.

Rugs Made From Polyester Squares

I went to a craft sale and they had home sewn rugs made from polyester material. The material was cut in small squares and sewed in rows, but I don't recall how they sewed it together. The craft show was in Seymour, Mo. Any help would be great!

Making Birthday Corsages

Does anyone remember the birthday corsages that were made in the 50's and 60's? For example, 16 years old, would be made as a candy corsage for 'sweet sixteen'. Each year would have a different theme. If you remember and have the ideas, I would appreciate them.

PJ from Forked River, NJ

Sweet Sixteen and Sour Seventeen

I remember those. The Sweet 16 corsage had sugar cubes wired to it with lots of pink ribbon and pink netting (tulle?). The Sour Seventeen corsage had lemon drops wired to it with lots of yellow ribbons and yellow netting or tulle.

Guide To Birthday Corsages

I remember these. My aunt would make them for me.

Below is copied from this website: http://www.tagate.com/horoscope/page/birthday.shtml

Another tradition enjoyed by girls that was popularized in the 1950s and 60s, is that of receiving a special corsage (or several) that was decorated with candy or another inexpensive item that corresponded to your age. The items were priced within reach of one's peer group and all light enough so they could fasten easily to curly ribbon and be worn throughout the school day without problem.

  • 10th birthday - lollipops
  • 11th birthday - gum drops
  • 12th birthday - tootsie rolls
  • 13th birthday - bubble gum
  • 14th birthday - dog biscuits
  • 15th birthday - life savers
  • 16th birthday - sugar cubes
  • 17th birthday - lemon drops
  • 18th birthday - cigarettes

Roses From Hershey's Kisses

I have seen people take two red or pink covered candy kisses, put them flat surfaces together, and attaching them to a flower stem. It's designed to look like roses. You either cover them in netting or just leave them glued together. As long as they are not in a hot room, they should stay nice for a long time.

By Poor But Proud

Tootsie Roll Airplanes

Another cute thing that kids love at parties are the airplanes. You take a piece of gum for the wing, two life savers for the tires, and a tootsie roll for the body. Thread a rubber band between the candy circles, and place them on either side of the tootsie roll. Then, loop them over the gum on top for the wings. It's really cute and with dollar tree candies and gums, you can make about 30 for just $3.00.

By Poor But Proud

No Special Themes

Where I lived on Long Island, NY we did make the corsages but no particular theme by years.

Homemade Dog Bed

I'm looking for EASY ideas for a homemade dog bed. Our dog has outgrown the small sized store-bought dog bed that we purchased when we brought her home from the animal shelter. My kids want to buy one of those they see in the stores that run about $30.00! No way! I'd like to make it a little family project for us to make together.
