Formula Can Snowman

I made this snowman out of empty formula cans and an empty pudding cup. I took empty 12 oz. and 25 oz. formula cans and painted them white. I painted the top of the 12 oz. black and the pudding cup black. I glued them all together and used tree branches for the arms. I then made a quick scarf out of scrap yarn and glued on the buttons.

Here are two easy homemade ornaments. The snowman was made from a shotgun shell. Empty of course. It has a little felt cowboy hat that was purchased.

Empty Formula Cans For Holding Gifts

For thrifty gifts this Christmas, I decided to make cocoa for several people on my list. Instead of buying glass containers, I saved my baby's formula cans and peeled off the labels. I measured the length and diameter of the can and cut wrapping paper to fit. I used clear tape around the top of the can to prevent ripping when the lid was taken on and off and down the length of the can to hold the paper securely. To finish off, I will fill with my cocoa mixture, tape some mini candycanes and a bow on the lid.

Tibby and Charlie (Chihuahua Mix)

Tibby and Charlie are brother and sister. In this photo, they are in our caravan exhausted after running and playing on the beach where we keep our caravan. They are 9 years old and are a chihuahua cross. We got them from a friend 9 years ago.

They like to run and play on the beach and by the creek close to our home, chasing the birds. They are loyal, loveable, cuddly and talkative. Walking by the wetlands close to our home, they almost caught a baby duck that was wandering not far from it's mum and dad.

Craft: Monogram Ornaments

My daughter and I saw some cute monogram ornaments in a high end gift shop that sold for $7.95 each. My daughter wanted one, so I told her I could make them for pennies. I already had most of the supplies on hand leftover from other projects. I purchased a pack of assorted fun foam sheets at the dollar store. These look great on the tree and would make nice gifts or package ties.

Craft: Tootsie Pop Reindeer

Easy to make Tootsie Pop Reindeer. My Tootsie Pop Snowman and Santa would not be complete without this cute Tootsie Pop Reindeer! This little guy would be adorable slipped under the ribbon on a gift for someone special or handed out at a Christmas Party!

Craft: Tootsie Pop Santa

Easy to make Tootsie Pop Santa. To go along with my Tootsie Pop Snowman, this Santa would make the perfect treat a child on Christmas. These make great party favors or place cards. Another option in presenting this to someone might be to attach a string and hang it on the tree as an ornament!

Popcorn Tins For Waste Baskets

We always receive the popcorn tins for Christmas. I have found if you line them with a small grocery bag, they make a great garbage can for any room that needs a little something to catch trash in. My girls always find one they like and you don't feel bad when they tire of it. My husband has one beside his chair in the family room and loves it.

Switch to Liquid Soap to Avoid Soap Scum

Bar soap causes soap scum. Spare yourself the extra work by not using it! Switch to gel soaps! I haven't noticed this much myself but my friend told me that ever since he moved and has more than one bathroom he has learned that that the bathroom he was using bar soap in had a soap scum build-up. The one he uses only gel or other liquid soaps in doesn't!

I told him he should submit this tip to ThriftyFun but he wanted me too! A way to get rid of the bar soaps you might have excess of like I do, because I was being thrifty and stocked up at sales, donate them to women's shelters!

Algebraic System For Coloring Clay

I've developed an algebraic system for creating a variety of colors for polymer and modeling clay. It's similar to the technique for mixing food coloring. What I do after conditioning the clay (I use the colors red, blue, yellow, black, and white) is form balls about 1 cm. in diameter for each color, making sure to put the unused balls in an air-tight container. I then combine the colored balls using my system. For example 4B+4R means combining 4 blue balls with 4 red balls, 2Y+6R means combining 2 yellow and 6 red balls and so forth. It's much cheaper than buying pre-mixed colors and a lot more fun.

Butter Is Better For Candymaking

When making candy to be poured into a baking dish, I find if you use butter or a buttery tasting margarine the bottom of the candy tastes better than if you'd used a non-stick cooking spray.

Cookies for Mrs. Claus

A few years ago after watching the TV movie "Mrs. Santa Claus" with Angela Lansbury (GREAT holiday movie!), I realized that Mrs. Claus works just as hard as Santa! Why is she stuck home on Christmas Eve? Why should Santa have all the fun of delivering toys without her? (Also, we want to show our kids that a married couple should be united in their goals.) On Christmas Eve, we set out carrots for the reindeer, as well as cookies and milk for Santa AND Mrs. Claus!

On Christmas Morning, when the kids rush in to find what Santa brought, they always check to see if the snack is gone and if Santa brought Mrs. Claus. Sure enough, both mugs are empty and the cookies are gone! How do we know if Mrs. Claus came along for the ride? Why, her lipstick is on the mug AND napkin, of course!

Make Sure You Have Everything You Need For Computerized Toys

Hi, I just wanted to let everyone know if you bought your child the puppy that grows and knows your name for Christmas, please read the box as to what you need for the puppy. You have to program it on the computer and you will need a USB cord that I could not find anywhere, not even circuit city. Just read the box before you buy. Thanks, Happy Holidays

Use Airplane Sickness Bags As Funny Gift Wrap

Free Gift Wrap, especially if you have a sense of humour and like to travel! For wrapping gifts, at the holidays, or more especially souvenirs you bring home to friends and family from your vacation, collect the unused "barf" bags from the back pocket of your airplane seat. When travelling to Canada, I gathered up 4 of the "emergency" bags, which are just plain white bags with the red leaf on them and twist-tie closures. I put my girlfriends' and the catsitter's gifts in each one, and they thought it was really funny, and it was a "free" way to present their gifts. Clearly you can't go taking the whole plane's supply, but it would seem to me that 2 on the way and 2 on the way back would be reasonable.

Make a Doll from Child's Favorite Shirt

My nephew had a Sponge Bob shirt that was too small, but he still wanted to wear it. So I made a doll with it. I designed everything on paper first then proceeded to cut everything out. You can use an existing pattern for dolls, but I chose to design it myself. I made a head, attached yarn for the hair, and then I used permanent marker for the face. I made arms and legs out of a muslin, and stuffed them with poly-fill. I used his shirt for the body, and stuffed it with poly-fill. He loved it and so did his sister, so I did the same thing for her out of her favorite shirt. I thought this way they could keep their favorite shirt and not wear it.

Health Insurance Options for 25 Year Old

I am 25 yrs. old. I am a full-time student and only work part-time. I think I am too old for Medic-aid. What are some other options? If I have to go to the crowded health department, I will. I've been without insurance for over 2 years so I'm pushing my luck. Keep in mind, I don't have the money to pay for a plan.

Removing Cleaning Products from Cabinet Fronts

I was helping my aunt clean her kitchen cabinets. I have been a fan of Murphy's wood soap oil, but I think her cabinets were too dirty for this to work. It left the cabinets uneven and blotchy looking. Things got even worse when she sprayed Old English polish on them. What will take all of these products off plus the left over grime underneath? And I think my aunt wants them to shine afterwards. Considering they are 30+ years old, is it realistic anything will make them look shiny?
