Miss Mollie (Long Haired Chihuahua) Bubbe (Chapoo)
Miss Mollie and Bubbe are both about 2 years old. Miss Mollie is a long haired full blood chihuahua and Bubbe is a Chapoo (1/2 chihuahua and 1/2 poodle.) I got them both from a friend.
Miss Mollie loves to play in the tub and Bubbe loves to chase flies!
They are inseparable. They are family and know me better than myself! LOL

Craft Project: Decoupage Ornamental Ball
Decoupage is the art of pasting paper. Wildly popular during Victorian times, it can be a wonderful way to create many different styles of art. It's also a great way to recycle almost any kind of paper. Here are the basics about the art and a simple project to get you started.

Growing A Vegetable Garden In Pots
Yes You Can! This is a picture of my deck vegetable garden - all in pots. This is not my first year to do this, but this is the first time I have had so much (the squirrels usually dig up the seeds before they even get started). What you see are tomatoes, green and yellow beans, cucumbers, yellow squash, and zucchini. I have several plants of each. I am looking forward to making and freezing soup, dessert breads, and pasta sauce - not to mention what will be eaten straight from the garden. It is possible to have a great, productive garden without too much space or work.

Vegetable Peeler for Removing Prescription Bottle Label Info
The other day I wanted to remove my name and numbers from an empty pill bottle before putting in the recycle bin. I was in a hurry and didn't have time to soak the label off, so I grabbed my vegetable peeler and gave it a couple of swipes, enough to remove all the personal information. Worked like a charm.
Easier than scraping it with a sharp knife, and less dangerous, with crippled /arthritic hands. Hope this helps others.

Newspaper End Rolls for Packing
Moving tip. If you need packing paper to wrap your valuables, go to your local newspaper and ask for an end roll of paper. They give it away for free here and it has no print on it and has plenty of paper for getting your things packed. You can also cut it to the exact size you need. And again, the best thing about it is that it is FREE!

Reuse Containers for School Supply Storage
School teacher supplies can be a challenge to store in a crowded classroom with limited storage space. Empty tennis ball containers which are clear can store office supplies such as paper clips, paper brads, pens, pencils, erasers, etc. These containers can be stored in a cabinet or stacked in a plastic bin. Clorox wipes containers can store supplies; a picture of the item(s) inside the container can be made and put on the outside of the container for identification of the contents. Baby wipe containers can hold crayons, markers, etc. The small containers that "Healthy Choice" deli meats are packaged in can be used for holding crayons, small pair of scissors and a small glue stick and placed in a student's chair bag; a label with the student's name on it can be attached to the top and side of the container.
Teachers recycle! If you have container that a teacher might use in the classroom, take it to your local school. Teachers will thank you!

Warm Stuffed Toys for Bedtime
"Kill 2 birds with one stone" in the laundry dept and place a child's favorite medium or large stuffed toy in the dryer to help absorb the moisture. If the dryer load is started before the child's bedtime, at "lights out", the toy comes out of the dryer warm and is even more snuggly and comfy.
The laundry could be done so that the dryer load is done when it's bedtime!

Remove Smell From HE Washers
Most front loading High Efficiency washers will develop a "smell" every few weeks caused by stale water sitting in the rubber door seal. Instead of buying the expensive tablets sold for this problem, just put a 1/4 cup of regular Vinegar in the wash along with your clothes. Vinegar is a natural cleaner that will not harm your washer, your clothing or the environment.

Frugal Ways To Fill Your Garden
Having beautiful flower beds doesn't have to be just a dream. I have found many frugal ways to fill my gardens with perennials, bushes and trees.
Swapping: Everyone has something they are eventually going to divide in the garden to keep them neat and tidy. Contact all of your friends and inquire if they would like to swap some of your perennials that you have divided for something in their garden. Make sure anything you bring home is put in the ground immediately, along with some compost material, water, and fertilizer.
Contact your local Gardening Club: Your local club can be a wealth of information and valuable resources! Usually they are working with native plants and flowers and could give you expert advice and also lead you to great plant resources available at a much better price.
Your Local Dump: Amazing but true...people throw away some of the nicest plants into the compost heap at the dump. A little loving care for a week or less could show great improvement and soon you will be looking for a home in your garden for them! Grab some compost while you are there, it's normally free!
FreeCycle.Org: Place a want ad for perennials, bushes.... anything, in FreeCycle.org. So many people thin their bushes or divide their perennials and this could be a wonderful place to find interesting plants to add to your garden. Ask if anyone is willing to give you cuttings to root or new shoots from bushes so you can give them some tending for your own home gardens.
Supermarkets: I like to check out behind big supermarkets as usually once a week they take all of the plants that are drying out and limp and throw them away. Usually you will find them in a heap somewhere out back. I also ask the store manager if I can help myself when they decide to throw away large amounts of plants. Most do not care if you would like them, especially if you are a customer.
Local Wildflowers: One of my favorite hobbies is to take walks looking for wonderful native flowers that I can use in my bare spots or in areas of the yard that need fillers. Each state has dozens and dozens of the most gorgeous and underappreciated flowers. The only thing you want to do is find out how evasive they are. Some you may want to plant in places you do not mind the spreading. Most are just perfect in any garden for a natural wildflower addition.
Seed Swapping: In the winter I like to do seed swaps with friends and family. Everyone has leftover seeds they did not use the year before and you may have some also. It's a great chance to try your hand in the spring at starting some new varieties. All you need is a place in the sun somewhere in your home to start in early Spring!

Use Clear Drinking Straws in Your African Violet's Pot
I repotted my African Violets. Those furry leaves are prone to damage if they rest on the pot rim. I noticed my mom runs tin foil around the rim, but it is unsightly. What I came up with was to use clear drinking straws! You can cut to size, lay it across the pot, and it holds the leaves up and off the rim of the pot.

Freeze Your Fresh Cherries
I found myself with many cherries last week. After washing, I put them into snack size bags, and placed them into the freezer. Whenever anyone wanted cherries, they pulled a bag out, either waiting about 10 minutes, or slightly taking off the chill in the microwave. They were excellent! Even sweeter then they were fresh. Just don't let them soften all the way, they become mushy. We ended up freezing all the cherries, preferring them this way, and no worrying about them going bad!

Frugal Kitchen Tool: Rubber Spatula
One of the most frugal tools in your kitchen is the rubber spatula. I use it when I have gravies, pasta sauce, etc. You would be shocked at the amounts of sauce, etc are left in the jar after pouring it out By using the rubber spatula you can clean out all the excess clinging to the can or jar. My husband even got him a set of rubber spatulas to clean out paint cans.

Use Gladwear as a Microwave Pasta Cooker
At a recipe site I subscribe to there has been a lot of discussion lately about the various pasta cookers that have been advertised. I use a 5 cup Gladwear container. I fill it half way with water, add 4 oz pasta, put lid on then loosen the lid at one corner. Cook in microwave for four minutes. Remove carefully. I use a folded dish towel and flip the lid off with a fork at the corner I had loosened earlier. Drain and it is ready to use whatever way you like. Why spend money on something special when you can do it without spending any extra money.

Get Two Uses From Your Celery
When purchasing celery, I try to get one that is quite fresh with a good solid base. At home, cut off about 2-3 inches of base of celery. Place this in a bowl with water up about an inch, set on windowsill. Keep the water refreshed every couple of days and soon root sprouts will start to show. When enough for planting put into soil or plant outdoors in garden if summer. This way you get at least two uses from the same purchase, your taking advantage of a recyclable item, and if you want you can let it grow till the size required for kitchen needs or just leave it as it makes for a nice plant.
One interesting thing I have found in doing this is the difference of purchasing celery that is just regular or organic. Interestingly the stem that was organic its water stayed cleaner and fresher whereas the regular insecticides does get brownish and will spoil quickly if not refreshed soon enough. I found this very interesting and certainly answered a lot of my questions concerning the stuff that they spray on our foods and put into our livestock!
Source: I started doing this about 30 years ago when life was at best frugal. Even then though I started teaching my children the benefits of organic gardening and preserving and reusing wherever possible.

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day
On the way back from a Cub Scout meeting, my grandson asked my
son the question. 'Dad, I know that babies come from mommies'
tummies, but how do they get there in the first place?' he asked
innocently. After my son hemmed and hawed awhile, my grandson
finally spoke up in disgust. 'You don't have to make something
up, Dad. It's OK if you don't know the answer.'

Removing Wood Stain From Vinyl Siding
How do I remove sealer from vinyl siding? I got my brother to help me stain and seal my fence about a month ago. It got all over my house and a small section of my neighbors'. We tried to clean up the stain on the siding with mineral spirits and Goof Off. Now the finish has a nice glossy sheen to it. I would like that gone. I've used Goof Off, mineral spirits, and gasoline. Nothing seems to get the stuff off. It keeps smearing a thin layer of stain. Please help.

Husqvarna Riding Mower Won't Start
My 2002 Husqvarna riding mower won't start or roll freely. It is a YTH1746 with Kohler CV490S Crown Series engine. It got harder to start over about a month, I'd charge the battery and it would go. Then it quit starting at all. I replaced the starter. No help. I replaced the ignition switch. No help. I ran a jumper from the battery to the starter, and the starter would spin and turn the engine, but there was no spark that way for the engine to start.
If it were a fuse, it wouldn't have failed gradually. I have no manual and don't want to start tearing it apart without some better idea of what I'm doing. Maybe it's the spark plug, but I'll have to start unscrewing things to find that. When it ran, it ran fine. Also, when I pull the lever on the back so I can push, it the transmission is still locked. I can rock it a little, but that is all. What do I try next? I couldn't even get it in the truck to haul to the shop now.

E-Cycling Economics
By Kelly Ann Butterbaugh The green movement is in full swing, and while it might be great for our planet, it might not be so great for our wallets. A growing concern involves e-cycling, recycling electronic products which seep chemical poisons into the ground beneath the dumps. There is a way to responsibly recycle e-products without breaking the bank. Think of e-cycling as "economic recycling" and save the planet.
