Bean Burgers

A different way to serve beans.


  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 16 oz. can beans with molasses
  • 1/2 cup catsup
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • Ad
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper


Cook beef and onion, drain. Mix in other ingredients. Spoon thickly onto hamburger buns. Broil 10 minutes, cover with bun tops.

Servings: 10 to 12
Time:20 mins. Minutes Preparation Time
10 Minutes Cooking Time

Vegetarian Idea: The words "Bean Burgers" reminded me that I used to make vegetarian Lentil burgers. You make them like you'd make meatloaf (only you use cooked lentils) then you fry in oil & cover with a slice of cheese then melt it. My whole family loved them (even though there was no meat in them!)

  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 2 cups brown rice -- cooked
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon sage
  • salt and pepper - to taste
  • 1/4 cup onion -- chopped fine


Combine everything in a large bowl and mash well. Form into 6 patties and cook in a non-stick pan until browned on both sides.
