Did you make a brilliant homemade costume this year? If so, please submit it with a photo at the link below. Halloween has come and gone this year but it will help people looking for ideas next year.
For the first time in a long time, we have run out of pet pictures! Normally, we have more than we can publish each week. So feel free to send in pictures of your adorable pets. We like to feature a different pet each day. Submit a photo of your pet here:
"Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share
all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it
automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you
had) and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with
folder names you will recognize. You can drag and drop to arrange
your albums and make labels to create new groups. Picasa makes
sure your pictures are always organized."
These are cute little turkeys made out of oreo cookies and candy pieces. They are even easy enough for young children to help make and look great on the holiday table.
Requires:
2 Oreo Double Stuff cookies
1 malted milk balls (like a whopper)
4-6 candy corn
Directions:
5 minutes preparation time.
Take 1 oreo apart. This will be the base.
Place the whole oreo on its side on the base, so that it sticks to white of the oreo.
In front of the oreo on its side, place a malted-milk ball for the turkeys head.
Place candy corn, points down, in between the oreo cookie that is standing on it's side.
This Halloween I did not prepare a costume in advance, planning on not dressing up this year (very much against my character). So at the last minute (Halloween night at 4 P.M.) I decided to throw something together. This costume is cheap, easy, quick and uses stuff most people have laying around there house.
Supplies:
Large piece of cardboard
Packing tape
Crayons (or paint)
Ex-acto Knife
Pen
Piece of yarn
Directions:
I looked up a picture of one of my favorite dinosaurs, the triceratops, on the internet before I began. First you need to draw the outline of the dino head on the back side of the cardboard. Once it is the way you like it, use and ex-acto knife to cut out your design.
Now use the crayons to add color and depth to your dino. Next you need to cut out 3 horns, one smaller and two larger. Once you have those the shape you like use the packing tape to tape them in place, one piece of tape on each side of the horn.
Cut your eye holes (you can also do this step before you put your horns on which may be easier depending on your cutting utensil).
You can either hold this mask up when you want to, or you can take a piece a string and thread it through the eye holes and tie it behind your head. I found, having long hair, that tying it back into a high pony tail helped keep the mask on.
If you end up making this costume before the night of Halloween you could paint the cardboard and it would stand out more!
For the feet, cut them out of card board, then cut a hole to slip your feet through. You wear these on top of your shoes!
For the finishing touch, wear a green outfit!
This outfit was a hit and was made under an hour! Rarrrr!
When packing up the leftovers from the Holidays, make a couple of "Turkey Casseroles". Spray the casseroles, put cooked Turkey in the bottom and top with Gravy; next add a layer of carrots; or other leftover veggies (Brussel Sprouts are not a good idea); a layer of dressing, and top with a layer of Mashed Potatoes. Push down slightly and cover with plastic wrap. I put the lid on the casserole and wrap it again to avoid having to look for it when you warm it up. Pop it in the freezer. To reheat - Thaw in the fridge all day and heat for about 1 hour at 325 degrees F. Just make sure it is HOT in the centre before serving. It's like a Mini-Turkey Dinner! ENJOY.
Having five kids, I tend to get stressed about stocking stuffers. I even had my husband do it one year and he was so frustrated because he could not find many "little" items under five dollars. And that can add up quick! So my solution was "Dollar Tree". They have many stores, but we travel a few extra miles to their "super store". The children draw names and each child can buy five items. All of the kids buy for mom and dad. We laugh at what the kids buy for each other! It makes Christmas so much more enjoyable. And much less stress!
Did you know that there is a very quick and simple way to achieve permanent creases in your ironing. Simply mix 1/3rd of a cup of vinegar to 2/3rds of a cup of water. Using a spray bottle dampen the fabric in the area that you require the permanent crease. Cover with some brown paper or similar and iron.

White vinegar can be effective for removing permanent creases on types of clothing like washable slacks and jeans. Apply white vinegar liberally to the crease and then press with a warm iron.
Keep a flashlight in your house that doesn't require batteries. You can buy flashlights that can be charged by winding them up or shaking them. If you run out of batteries, you won't be left in the dark if there is a power outage.
Try rubbing baby oil or vaseline on your hands to loosen paint stains. It's much easier on your skin than paint thinner or mineral spirits. Keep paint from lodging under your fingernails by rub them over a bar of soap before painting. Prevent paint from getting on your hands all together by wearing rubber glove when you paint.
Put plastic lids under each leg to help catch drips when painting. It's also good to put newspaper down, but the plastic lids will keep paint from soaking through the newspaper and staining the floor when applying paint to the legs.
When I was growing up, the women in my family and neighbors would exchange cuttings of plants - which is such a nice idea. Some plants are so easy to germinate from cuttings or slips - like spider plants. A gardener around here pulled a bunch of spider plants and I rescued from the trash to share with friends!
I love the Third Age newsletters (of course, I am a Boomer). On a recent visit, I saw in the "Money" section some great financial FORM LETTERS from Bank.com for consumer complaints! Really great templates.
I would like to tell Everyone about this web-site that is a Must Have if you own a computer, are planning to buy a computer or are using a computer that is not your own. I became a subscriber when they first started and became a Premium Member soon after. It has been worth every penny ($10.00) :)
Believe me this is valuable information that everyone needs to read. They have a weekly rant that is worth it's weight in gold. This weeks rant has to do with Ask.com (Ask Jeeves), here is a small sample of their rant
"Most users might think that the Ask Bar was just another search toolbar, like Google's. That's what Ask.com is counting on. But that's not what the Ask Bar is. The Ask Bar is FunWebProducts (i.e. SmileyCentral and thirteen other questionable applications combined). Many good anti-spyware programs will remove these products, yet Ask.com continues to claim they're not adware or spyware. More important, in our view, than whether or Ask.com (IAC) is pandering adware or spyware or browser/search engine hijackers, is the deceit IAC/Ask.com users to entice unwary users to install its FunWebProducts."
They also have stationary that has music and scrolls for free downloads! E-cards, beautiful screen savers, wonder screens and wall paper. This is where I learned how to put music (from my CD's) and home photos on to my Outlook Express email. Please check it out. I promise you will not be disappointed.
After our 2 year old decorated my tan leather sofa with a Bic ink pen, we tried all tips provided and nothing worked. Finally, I used a Fels Naptha Laundry Soap Bar and lathered it up on the leather and let it set a few minutes. It removed the ink without damaging the leather. It also made my furniture very supple. I've used it for years on my children's clothing to remove stubborn stains such as baby formula after a spit up! Give it a try!
I bought some fabric markers a while back. When I opened them a couple of days ago, they were dry. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can revive them? I hate to waste money!
I have rose wood wardrobes (cuboids). What color handles can I use for this? Rose wood is dark brown and black mixed. Please suggest some sites for handles if possible.
Can you use a cookie sheet with a rim instead of a jelly roll pan? I have always wanted to try making a pumpkin roll and see it says I need a jelly roll pan. My husband does not like pumpkin so this might be a one shot trial deal, so I don't want the expenditure. (Plus can't afford it anyway, lol.) Has anyone tried using a cookie sheet with a raised rim and how deep was the rim? I guess using a regular roasting pan would not work either. I see they sell non-stick jellyroll pans and wonder if that is a key to a successful jelly roll? Thanks to everyone one responds.
I love coffee mate caramel vanilla flavored creamer, but it is very expensive. I was wondering if anyone has the recipe to make my own? Thanks for any responses and/or recipes!
