Max was a 12 year old Basset Hound. My son gave Max to us when he and his wife divorced in 1999; Max was 2 years old then. Max liked to play with his buddy Roscoe (he's a Chihuahua mix) whom he grew up with in Sacramento.
I don't know why but at 8:30 am or so each day he howled like crazy and Roscoe loved to join him. Max was the most affectionate dog I've ever had; he always waited for me by the gate of our yard when he knew I left for errands. He would go around in circles when I came back and got near him to pet him and make that joyful sound of "I'm so glad you're back!
It was one of the saddest days of my life when I decided to have him put down, 2 years ago, because he suffered from Cushing's disease and was prone to infections. His buddy Roscoe is still around and surely misses him.

Max seemed like the perfect dog for your family, and I hope you will know we doggie lovers feel for you. We have them in our lives for so brief a time, but if they lived 4 times as long they couldn't give us more love.
I know you may have seen this, but in case you haven't, this is a wonderful thing to keep in your heart.
