Penuche Icing


  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups sifted confectioners sugar



Melt butter in saucepan; add brown sugar. Boil over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in milk. Bring to boil stirring constantly. Cool to lukewarm. Gradually add confectioners sugar. Add vanilla. Beat until thick enough to spread. If icing becomes too stiff, add a little hot water.

My mother use to make this icing when I was a little girl. We lived on Mo and I am now in my 70's. My granddad was from Iowa. Thanks for sending it. Will be making this soon.
