Organizing a Computer Area

When we set up the computer in our spare bedroom, I needed an area to show pictures, messages and reminders. I hung a bulletin board on the wall behind the monitor so I could hang things to catch my attention. Making them visible as soon as I sit down. I also found a a clear acrylic desk pad for the computer desk so I could display pictures under that and see them clearly.

I wanted a small bookcase to store paper, books, files, etc. I found a black shoe rack. I turned it up-side-down and it worked wonderfully in that space. I have 2 shelves to place items and it works great. I hung an old KE lamp in the corner for extra light.

Kasey (Labrador Retriever)

Kasey is 2 1/2 years old and a AKC Labrador Retriever. We got Kasey as a puppy at 8 weeks of age. Kasey loves to go for a walk every evening, swim, play ball in the yard and chase squirrels.

As you can see in the picture, Kasey loves to sleep in his master's bed. He is NOT allowed to sleep with us, but will climb in as soon as we are both up in the morning. Sleeping on his back is favorite position.

Salem and Loki (Cats)

Salem and Loki are 14 years and 7 years old. They are both a mixed breed. I rescued Salem (black) from an independent shelter while living in Montreal. Loki (white and black) was the only cat left in a litter that my friend had, from rescuing a feral pregnant cat and I took him in.

Salem is a little older but still has the energy to pester his brother and show him that he's still boss. He loves trying to swat food off of people's plates too. Loki is a real joker, he loves to play and make people laugh. He is very curious and will explore anything new. Both are people lovers.

Today's Tips:

Product Review: Bissel Little Green Carpet Cleaner

Model: Little Green

Manufacturer: Bissel

Cost: $75.00

I purchased the Little Green not only because I have (2) kids and (2) dogs, but because I am about the clumsiest person on the planet.

I was painting my room a nice shade of navy blue; I stupidly moved my ladder and didn't pay attention to where I was going and knocked my paint can over on my CREAM CARPET.

In a panic I grabbed a bunch of shop towels and sopped up what I could (it was enough paint to fill the bottom of your paint tray).

Luckily it was an area rug so I crammed a bunch of shop towels underneath it to prevent getting it on my hardwood floor. I grabbed my Little Green - didn't have carpet cleaner, so I had to use some of my Gain He laundry soap.

It took about 20 minutes and 3 refills, but it came out; my husband didn't notice anything. If he didn't see any stain in the middle of a cream area rug, the Little Green saved me once again!

Pull Your Coupons Off Products Before Checkout

Don't expect the cashiers at the check out to pull coupons off of products for you! Some do but some do not! I have been disappointed several times about this. The coupon can most often be used on the next trip to the store but you lost a chance!

Stopping Leg Cramps

I get leg cramps at night, even though I take calcium. I read that if you put a bar of soap, preferably Dial, under your top sheet near your feet the cramps will go away. I thought it was crazy but tried it, and low, and behold it worked. I have no clue how but it does.

Shelf Liner for Securing Throw Rugs

My husband scored several new oriental style rugs - both an area area and matching/coordinating area rugs, which are lovely. The problem is that the smaller area rugs slipped on our linoleum flooring. I solved that problem by buying an inexpensive roll of brown foam shelving liner and cutting it up into rectangles to put two under each rug at each end to anchor them. One cheap roll ($1.50) was enough for four area rugs.

Removing Labels from Jars

Do you like to save glass jars to reuse as storage but sometimes have problems removing the labels? Using a razor blade or what I use is a razor box cutter, slice large sections of the label. Soak in hot soapy water until label is saturated. Scrape off sections of the label with a scraper or an old plastic supermarket members card. If you slice the sections on the label too small, it will be harder to scrape off.

Some labels have a plastic coating on them and are hard to remove. By cutting sections of the label with a razor blade, breaks the plastic seal and allows the water to penetrate the paper under the plastic. This makes it easier to remove.

Homemade Stain Remover

Remove stains from clothing, carpet, and etc. Get an empty spray bottle, rinse, fill almost to top with peroxide, one squirt of liquid dish detergent, and shake. Spray this on clothing before putting into washer. Spray on dirty spots in carpet and walk away. If spots are really bad, you might have to repeat more than once. It has even worked on red wine stains on white blouse and paint stains in carpet. I have never had it to fade anything.

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

Discovering too late that a watermelon spiked with vodka had accidentally been served to a luncheon meeting of local ministers, the restaurant's owner waited nervously for the clerics' reaction.

"Quick, man," he whispered to the waiter, "what did they say?"

"Nothing," replied the waiter. "They were all too busy slipping the seeds into their pockets."

Dye Transfer on Football Uniform

I accidentally washed my son's white football uniform with his maroon one and of course the white one now has a pink tint to it. The sleeves on the white one are black and maroon so is there any way I can get the white part back to white without messing with the sleeves and their color? I have tried color safe bleach but it has only taken the pink brightness away but the pink is still there.

Reviews of Steam Cleaners

I'm looking for a steam cleaner that can do it all. I already have a carpet steam cleaner but want one that can clean grout, showers, and have an attachment for tile floors. From what I've seen my only option is a handheld unit which is fine, I just want to find the best and most affordable one. I want to stay under $100.

What Color Should I Paint My Kitchen?

I recently purchased a new home with beautiful tones of brown sandstone countertops and rust red porcelain tiling. All of the cupboards are finished with a pinky beige color. They are referred to as cherry cabinets, but I see them as pinkish.

My question is what color would be best to paint the kitchen walls. The window and door trims are dark walnut. The color they are painted now is a light mauve and it is too pinky for me.

I'd like to contrast the pinky cupboard with maybe a brown color for the walls. I want a darker color, because the kitchen is so huge with 18 foot ceilings I'd like to make it appear smaller, cozier, and warmer.

Covering Windows With Plastic to Reduce Heating Bills

I was wondering if anyone could tell me approximately how much money they've saved on heating bills by putting plastic in the windows to keep drafts out? I know this will depend on a lot of things, but I'm just trying to see if this is worth doing.

I'm on the 2nd floor of a two family house built in the early 1930s. I suspect the windows are the originals. I have a gas furnace that is probably at least 10 years old. I live in Upstate New York where it is pretty much cold and snowy from November through April.

Glass Stuck to an Oil Painting

I have an oil painting that is about 50 years old. It was framed and covered with glass. The glass has stuck to the painting. What can I do to save the painting? It is so pretty that I hate to have to toss, after finding it at a sale.

White Gold Ring Turned Yellow

I recently got married. My husband snd I bought our wedding set on July 14. I wore my engagement ring till Aug. 14. A few days after we were married, I was admiring my rings when I noticed my wedding band was still "white gold", but my engagement ring had a dull yellow color.

I took it in to the jeweler, they said this is normal and will happen with wear. They supposedly replated it with white gold and re-rodiumized it. Exactly one month later "bam" the same thing.

Will someone please give me some advice? This jeweler is one of the more reputable ones in town, but it looks like I got a "lemon" ring. My grandmother's rings were white gold and after 50+ years never turned yellow.

Refilling Febreze Noticeables

Does anyone know of a specific oil that can be used in the Febreze plug ins? I have tried some that Walmart sells, but the end result is not good. I love to use the Febreze Noticeables, but they are so costly.

So, I experimented on it to see if I can reuse them by buying oils and refilling them, but I can not seem to get the same lasting smell the original produces. So was wondering if anyone knows of a really good lasting brand of scented oil that can work with them. It would be much appreciated.

Water Spots on Bathroom Fixtures

I have problems with lots of white calcium on the tub faucets and the shower head and drain. Does anyone have any home remedies to remove the tough buildup?

I've seen CLR advertised and it is supposed to be safe and work. I'd prefer a home remedy, but it really needs to work. I'm just saying that I tried lemon juice and baking soda to clean the tub and it didn't work. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you much.
