Exercises for Upper Body Building Without Joining a Gym

I have a friend who is trying to get in shape with his arms and chest, but doesn't have the money to join a gym. He would like to build muscle in his arms and chest areas. Will the old fashion push-ups help build his chest muscles?

Go to your library and ask for exercise or muscle building books. They usually have all kinds of good books about getting into better shape. If you don't have a card, take a picture id with you. Driver's License will work. Libraries have unlimited resources because they can get information from other libraries across the nation.

There are also great free sites like sparkpeople that have exercises & tracking for workouts & calories. Yes, there are tons of workouts you can do using your own body weight to get in shape. If you can't afford weights you can use household things like two milk jugs filled with water instead. :)
