Ingredients

  • 1 stick of unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup butter flavored Crisco shortening
  • 1 cup of brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. real vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1-1/2 to 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
  • 2-3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions

Blend the softened butter and shortening together, add both sugars and mix well. Add vanilla and eggs and mix together well. Dump in the chocolate chips and nuts and stir. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, salt and baking powder and whisk to mix well. Add the flour mixture a little at a time, gently turning to blend together well. If you're in a hurry, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and stick the dough in the freezer while the oven warms. Otherwise refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour until well chilled. I like my cookies on the big side so grab golf ball sized chunks of dough, roll into a ball and flatten. Place on a good quality, ungreased aluminum baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees F for approximately 15 minutes, checking after the first 10. Cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes or so before transferring to a cooling rack and let cool ~ if you can resist!
