Cleaning a Stainless Steel Fireplace Surround

Our fireplace has a stainless steel surround that has become discolored from the heat and there is also what I believe to be sap that dripped and burned around the bottom. Any ideas? I haven't tried anything except the regular stainless cleaner I use on my appliances.

This is how I clean my stainless steel fridge. First clean it with soap and water. Then, try a little Skin-so-soft bath oil from Avon; just put a little on a clean soft cloth and wipe it down. WD-40 also works as does any baby oil. When ya do get smudges and fingerprints, they will wipe right off! I don't know why that wouldn't work for your ss surround. Good luck!
