Today's Tips
Easter baskets don't have to be loaded with candy. I always put in a chocolate bunny and a little candy, but add things like jewelry, cosmetics, new markers or fancy pencils, small books or journals or scratch pads, toys or games. Maybe some new swim goggles or flip flops. Instead of the traditional basket, a new tote bag, sand pail, or plastic crate are practical ideas.

Mini-Muffin Pan For Drying Easter Eggs
This is an Easter tip for those who color a lot of eggs. Use your mini-muffin pan to hold your eggs so they can dry!
I use my wonderful Pampered Chef egg separator to dye the Easter eggs. It's easy for children to handle, too!

If you have to use eye drops, lay down on the bed and lay the drop bottle on the bridge of your nose, turn your head sideways a little and the drop will fall into your open eye, without the chance of you touching your eye with the bottle tip.

Tips for keeping trash from smelling in the kitchen. Post your ideas.
To keep trash cans smelling fresh, use pieces of candle wax that's left after the wick's gone. Since I can't seem to get full use of my candles, at least my trash cans smell fresh by laying a piece of the candle in the bottom of the can before lining it with the trash bag.

Pan Substitutions - When You Don't Have The Right Sized Baking Dish
Most of us keep ingredient alternatives or substitutions for those occasions we may not have enough of a certain ingredient, but another equally important list I keep is a pan substitution list that is practical.
If a recipe calls for one 8"x4"x2" loaf pan, substitute two 5-1/2"x3-1/4" loaf pans.
One 9" round cake pan = one 8" square pan.
Two 9" round cake pans = three 8" round cake pans.
One 12-cup fluted tube pan = one 10" tube pan OR two 9"x5"x3" loaf pans.
One 13"x9"x2" pan = two 9" round cake pans.

I was preparing a fairly plain boxed pasta side dish for last night's dinner when I remembered a small amount of leftover steamed spinach in the refrigerator. I squeezed it as dry as I could, chopped it very finely and after the pasta dish was done cooking, I added it to the dish. The heat from the prepared pasta was more than sufficient to heat the spinach and after stirring it in thoroughly, I was struck by what a visually appealing dish it had become.
A very small amount of grated cheese was used as a topper. It was delicious! The taste of the spinach did not overwhelm the pasta sauce and resulted in a more substantial side dish as well as taking care of a leftover. I will definitely be doing this one again.

Cooking Corned Beef in the Oven
Instead of cooking it to death on the stove, cover with water, add regular spices (peppercorns, bay leaf, etc). Bring briefly to boil on stove, then cover and bake in 300 degrees F oven for approximately 3 1/2 hrs. It will be tender, won't shrink as much, and the kitchen will smell heavenly!

If you don't already know how, learn to make soup. It is a healthy, nutritious and economical budget stretcher. You can use up a lot of your leftover veggies and a large pot often lasts for more than one meal.

I learned this from my Nana - Flannel fabric is the best for everything from dusting to cleaning bikes in the spring. Once a child has outgrown the PJ's or an adult has just worn through them, cut them up in various sizes. I cut the sleeves off and sew the ends closed to make for an easy dusting mitt.

Call the Paper For Special Offers
When it comes time to renew a subscription, call them and it's likely you'll save big! I noticed last week that it would have been more expensive to auto-pay my Sunday paper (coupon central) than to send in a check every 3 months. So I called them and explained this. She quickly reviewed my information and offered me a whole year at a very reduced price. Make the call. They will usually give you a deal!

Fill large bowl with either 1 layer or many layers (I prefer many)
Ingredients:
Directions:
Layer the lettuce, cauliflower, peas, cheese, light salt and pepper and put small dollops (about a tsp. size of mayo for each layer. I spread mayo to completely cover the top layer, then sprinkle with bacon bits (some people put bacon bits on each layer). Cover tightly and refrigerate at least 8 hrs. There is no incorrect way to do this salad. Every time I serve this everyone raves it. Also great to take to a potluck!

It seems there is always some brand of cake mix on sale! This is an economical way to use cake mix - it doesn't matter if you use the brand name, or the generic store brand - these cookies turn out great! Experiment with different flavored mixes and add-ins for different kinds of cookies.
Ingredients:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients and mix together. Drop by tablespoons on a cookie sheet prepared with non-stick spray. Bake at 350º for about 12 minutes.

How Much Should It Cost To Feed Family of Two?
Hello everyone:
I have a question. We are now down to the two of us.
How much should it cost for food and basic toiiletries (toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, etc) for a family of two.
I am talking about in-home prepared foods; meat perhaps 2 to 3 nights per week; rest would be cheese, beans, macaraon/dishes).
I live in the NorthEastern region of U.S. and have large supermarkets like, Shoprite nearby.
I am trying to establish a reasonable a budget.
Thanks.

Husband Quit Drinking, Now Is Addicted To Sugar
My husband has quit drinking for about 6 months. All he seems to do is eat cookies and pretzels. I know his body is replacing the sugar he is lacking but if I don't buy cookies, he buys them and goes through 2 60 packs a week. What can I do? I am afraid he will turn into a diabetic.
Any tips on this would be great!
