Have you tried advertising that you would babysit in your local paper? Or asking your mom if you could take on a few extra chores for a few extra bucks? Or even if you have a Grandparent that lives close maybe you could clean and do things around there house for extra money. Good Luck.

You can look on the internet for recipes for dog treats that you could make yourself. I think you have already bought very nice gifts for your mother.

I bet she would like a big hug from you and that would make her Christmas!

You know, your mother may not be looking for the most gifts, the best gifts, and what you can buy for her. What you need is to show her how much you care. I bet your mother would be more proud of you if you saved that money for a car or even for college. Sometimes, a her fav picture and a poem written by you does the trick.

Honey, I think it is great that you want to buy your mom some more stuff, but the most cherished gift is one from your heart.

How about sitting down and writing her a letter, telling her some of the wonderful things you remember her doing for you when you were young. Maybe she held you safe in her arms during a thunderstorm, let you sleep in the bed with her after you had a nighmare, or cooked something special for your birthday, or maybe you could just tell her about one of your earliest memories of being with her.

You could even use a computer and/or some special paper to decorate it.

That is a gift that she will still cherish long after the chocolate is gone and the snow in the globe has turned.

Let us know what you do!

My most cherished gift from my daugter is a picture she drew for me, then another time she and her brother wrote a poem for me, both are still hanging on my walls. I read the poem several times a week.

I wish you the best.

You are such a caring and good person. I admire you for the love and caring you express for your family! I'll be saying special prayers for your Dad in Iraq! I'm so thankful for your Dad and all the others who are fighting for me, you, and our Country!

How about hitting the closest Dollar store? You would be amazed!! Can you shop with a girlfriend whose mom could drive you there? Or how about public transportation-look into what is available.. Homemade gifts are good , too. How about a booklet of handmade or computer designed "gift certificate" for extra chores, cooking dinner, a home pedicure by YOU, etc. I'll bet if you think it out you can come up with a lot of realy good things that will last thru the year! What about a "______of the Month club offering something you can make or do? Good for mom or grandma.

Dear Chelsi, Do your chores! Then your mom won't have to take away part of your allowance. Believe me she would rather have you do your chores than to have another stocking stuffer. I used to tell my 4 kids don't buy me anything just do what I ask you to do. That's the best gift a mother can ever receive.

Chelsi, Wow! All parents wish their kids were as caring as you! How about checking out EBay? Alot of sellers out there (myself included) would make an exception to payments by PayPal and take money orders or cash from someone in your situation and you could find any number of gifts for your mom and others. (although you already have alot for her :) You could always have them shipped to a friend's house to keep her from knowing about them. And I agree with the others - nothing would mean more to her than a poem you wrote, or a letter telling her your fondest memories of her. As we age, we all wonder if we were good enough parents, if we gave our kids good memories (or only nightmares in our inexperience) :) Good luck - if your mom even knew you posted to this board to find ideas for more gifts for her, she would probably be moved to tears. God bless you and your family! glomax56

Hi Chelsi,

The gifts you have already gotten for your Mom sound wonderful, but, if I were her, I would love to have a scrapbook of happy times with you, her and your dad. With your dad being away, the scrapbook will give her something she can look at and really enjoy the memories until he comes home to make new ones. A scrapbook can be added to any time of year, her birthday, mother's day or even JUST BECAUSE days when you want to show her how much you love her.

This may take some thought and you may have to rummage for pictures, but that is part of the fun. Use your imagination and I'm sure she will love it.

Bless you and your family. I hope you have a wonderful holiday (although I know it is hard to celebrate with your Dad away).

Could you post your suggestions for gift ideas for teens? I think we all could use some help with that! I know pink and black are in, and I know beanies are in (I have some pink and black ones for sale on EBay, as well as other colors), but I don't know what else. Thank you!

Hey Kiddo Are you any good at wrapping gifts? You could make some extra money wrapping other people's gifts You could make a flyer and say They supply the gift and the wrapping paper and you will wrap them for say 2.00 a package unless it is real big and you might want to charge more because it would take more of your time. You seem like a creative gal so why not go on the internet and find a recipe for dog treats and then take them to all your friends with Pups and sell them to them. When pricing your dog treats make sure to take into account how much flour and other stuff you use so you can pay for your supplies and then the rest is profit. Snow shoveling is another way my kids used to make extra cash for christmas. But at 5:00 for just sidewalks and About double that for a side walk and a driveway and your money can double up fast. Yes it is hard work but when you put that money in your pocket and are able to buy for your family with cash you earned yourself you will be proud of yourself and your accomplishment. Here is another couple of tips, You could walk some of your neighbors dogs or run a dog wash if you live somewhere where it is still warm outside. All you would need is some cheap shampoo and a dog brush to brush them out when you are done. Run a Car wash for your neighbors. But don't get discouraged thier are people out there that will be willing to help you. I send you a great big hug for all your efforts and I know you will suceed. One more you could offer your self up as a Christmas Card Addresser and Help your nieghbors addressing thier Christmas cards. Hope these help and good luck to you.

Chelsi,

It is admirable you are taking on such a big responsiblity at such a young age. May I suggest not material gifts but some helpful presents...give certificates for jobs your mom, grandma, etc take on...cleaning, laundry, etc...give them to make their life easier and they will be much more appreciated than a store bought generic gift. Also, a great gift is photos, take some of the family or yourself and frame them very nicely. Good luck and remember that Christmas isnt about the gift but spending time with our loved ones.

Hi Chelsi,

First off, let me commend you for wanting to find ways to earn extra money and for being so thoughtful.

I have several ideas for making money. Can you have a yardsale and split the profits with your mom? If you have good grades, you can tutor other children. I pay $12 for half hour of math tutoring and I carry my child to the tutor's house. If you live in a safe neighborhood and know your neighbor's well, how about being a mom's helper during the season.
You can babysit, do cleaning, help with parties, wrap presents, shovel snow (if appropriate) or do other spruce up work. If there are several children in your area, maybe you and a friend could have a parents night out sitting service on Friday or Saturday during the holidays. Just keep the number of children to a manageable amount and end it at a reasonable (10 or 11) hour. You can carry these ideas throughout the year to earn money to buy those little extras for yourself. Happy Holidays.

I'm sure most of the moms here would agree - we would much much rather have something sentimental (photo collection of our family, homemade poem, a heartfelt letter, etc) than something store bought! You can make it fancy by framing a poem or letter with a dollar store frame, or decorating a photo album, etc. Your mom sure is lucky to have such a sweet daughter!

Well I think this idea of kids looking for a way to get money for Christmas is great so here it is:

Go to a craft or gift site like http://www.allfreecrafts.com and make cheap easy nice crafts and have a Christmas craft sale in your yard and you can even charge extra for gift wrapping. Or you can put up a sign or go door to door and ask people if they need help putting up Christmas lights for a small fee and tell them what it is for. I promise it will work. Good luck God Bless and Happy Holidays! I don't know what 19 year old guys want because I am only 27.
