Craft Project: Liquid Sidewalk Chalk

Make homemade liquid sidewalk chalk for your little ones to paint with outside. Liquid Chalk in Muffin Tins

Approximate Time: 5 minutes

Supplies:

  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • food coloring
  • old muffin tin

Instructions:

  1. Mix together the cornstarch and water in a bowl.

  2. Next divide it among the muffin tin holders.

  3. Now add your food coloring to each one and stir. This is also an opportunity to teach your child how by mixing colors together you can make new colors. Combine red and yellow to make orange, blue and red to make purple, and blue and yellow to make green.

  4. Grab a paintbrush and let your little ones paint away.

You can also let it harden and use like regular chalk. I did this and used tube shaped ice cube trays(used to make ice for thermoses) to make stick shape.

The colors do not stain the concrete, the colors are much brighter before they go onto the concrete. And then they wash off very easily, just as regular chalk does! :)

I would think the food coloring would stain concrete.

A good idea. Hope it cleans up well. Sure would be fun to play with these paints though. Thank you for a very easy craft.
