Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 2 Tbsp. salad oil
  • 2 can tomato paste (6oz. size)
  • 2 quarts tomato juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Optional: salt or seasoning salt, pepper, garlic powder or garlic salt or bay leaves, to taste

Directions:

Brown hamburger in salad oil. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer on stove for at least one hour.

Instead of sugar, I add a whole carrot or two. A trick my mother taught me. I also like using vidalia onion as they add a bit of sweetness as well.

Tip: Spaghetti Sauce

Old recipe. Very good.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
  • 2 large cans tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. oregano or Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef, cooked and drained

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together in a large pot and slowly simmer for an hour or so on the stove -or- put in crock pot on HIGH until mixture is hot; turn to LOW and cook 2-3 hours to blend flavors.

Recipe: Spaghetti Sauce

My husband's favorite!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground chuck, browned, drained and washed
  • 1 medium onion, diced and sauteed in light oil
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 1-2 Tbsp. Herbs de Provence (mixture of dried herbs)
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • black and red pepper, to taste
  • 1 can fire roasted diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 2 cans water

Directions:

Saute onions until softened and add washed ground beef, spices, tomatoes, paste and water. Simmer on low 45 minutes to 1 hour. Add water if needed to prevent sticking, or instead of water, add a little spicy hot V-8 juice. Serve over cooked spaghetti or bread sticks.

Servings: 4
Time:15 Minutes Preparation Time
45 minutes - 1 hour Cooking Time

I'm sorry, never heard the term 'washed' with meat...does that mean rinse the fat away maybe? (02/24/2010)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground chuck
  • 1/2 lb ground sausage both browned and drained
  • 3 Tbsp. oregano
  • 1 Tbsp. Italian seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp. basil
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground peppercorns
  • 1 Large can of mushrooms
  • 2 Large jars of generic spaghetti sauce
  • 1 16 oz can tomato paste
  • 2 or 3 bay leaves
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Directions

Bring mixture to a slight boil. Turn heat down to simmer. Simmer for 4-5 hours stirring every hour or so it doesn't stick.

  • 1 Tbsp. garlic salt
  • 1 Tbsp. parsley flakes
  • 2 Tbsp. sweet basil
  • pepperoni slices
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 cup green pepper

Directions

Brown hamburger and onion. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer 3-4 hours. Serve over spaghetti. Sprinkle with Parmesan or Romano cheese.
