Use Wine Glasses To Hold Balloons

For my husbands 40th birthday, we were on a tight budget. Instead of purchasing weights for the dozen balloons that I bought, we tied them to water glasses with a stem, and put a bit of foil confetti in the bottom of each glass, and then sprinkled some on the table as well. The effect was elegant, yet cost very little. The party was huge success!.

Today's Tips

Fruit Liquids

Canned fruit liquids can be used instead of pouring them down the drain. Heat and thicken with cornstarch. Serve over a plain cake.

Uses for Canned Fruit Juice

I was opening a can of fruit the other day and thought to myself, "What a waste of good juice". Does anyone have recipes that use fruit juices from canned fruits in them? I am assuming these can be put into the freezer for later uses.

Apricots, peaches, pears, pineapple, etc.

Making Scrambled Eggs For a Large Group Of People

When making scramble eggs for a large group of people, once eggs are scrambled, add a tablespoon of sour cream and stir the eggs to coat. It will keep the eggs from turning green in the bowl. As far as the taste goes you can't even taste the sour cream. I did this for a large family brunch and it worked well.

Traction for the Sidewalk

Since salt is harmful to dogs, when your sidewalks, etc are icy, sprinkle kitty litter to give Fido some traction. You will still need to wipe his paws, but at least there won't be caustic salt eating away at his toe pads!

Worn Out Cuffs? Make A Short Sleeved Shirt

My husband works in an office environment and wears long-sleeved shirts every day. When the cuffs start getting frayed but the rest of the shirt is still fine I make a short-sleeved shirt by cutting off the bottom part of the sleeve and hemming it up on my sewing machine. He wears these altered shirts in the summer months.

Making Fluffy Reheated Rice

When re-heating cooked rice in the microwave, put a small ice cube in the middle of the rice and then nuke away. The ice will turn to steam, and your re-heated rice will be fluffy!

Preving Lint With Vinegar

To remove lint from clothes, put in little white vinegar in the wash. Lint will not stick to the clothes as much.

Uses for Tissue (Kleenex) Boxes

Tips for using kleenex boxes. Post your ideas below.

Reusing Tissue Boxes

Don't throw away old Kleenex boxes. Use them to store all you bags you get at supermarkets, Wal-Mart etc. You don't even have to fold them if you don't want to. I just stuff them in the box. A box hold quite a few and then they are handy to line your plastic garbage bucket in the kitchen. I also use a Kleenex box to store empty bread wrappers. When I make home made bread, I use the ones I've saved and can then freeze the baked loaves without having to purchase anything to put the loaves in.

Helping Kids Orgraning Their Own Toys

To organize my girls smaller toys, I filled see through bins with the toys, took a picture with my digital camera of one or two of the items that were inside (for example) jewelry or little people. Then printed the pictures out on the computer. Then using contact paper I attached the pictures to the outside of the tub.

Now the girls know where things go (since they can't read yet) and there are no excuses when it is clean up time.

Use A Rotating Utensil Holder for Markers and Pencils

My daughter loves to use markers and colored pencils. So, I found this rotating utensil holder at a garage sale (the ones for spatulas, whisks, ladles, etc.) The one I found was Pampered Chef and only a $1. I sorted all her markers both thick and thin into the different compartments by color. Now she doesn't have to dig through a tub of markers or try and keep them in their original paper box. She just gives it a little spin and the rainbow of colors turns right to the one she needs!

Apple Klondike Dessert

Put a Klondike Bar in a bowl and put applesauce over it. It is great! It is like having apple pie ala mode without baking.

By Janet Webster

Editor's Note: Not mentioned in the tip, but if you add a little cinnamon to the apple sauce and heat it up a bit it would be like hot apple pie.

Also, one treat that I have made recently is some heated apple sauce (homemade) with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it. Really easy dessert and not as fattening as eating a full bowl of ice cream.

Organizing Yarn When Making A Hook Rug

Take a yard of material and fold 3/4 of it up and sew in squares like a shoe organizer. Use this for your yarn when making a hook rug. You can tape the number and the color of thread on each square so you can use it over and over with each rug.

Fixing Holes in Particle Board Furniture

To fill in places where the paper has been ripped off of wood look furniture, try using a brown crayon to cover the spot followed by a black crayon (lightly) to blend the spot. We did this with a dvd cabinet recently with great results.

Frugal Ideas on Making Wild Bird Feeders

We have purchased a bird feeder, and now find that there are too many birds. We dont mind buying the feed, it's the feeders that make us cringe! The type we need is over $70! So i thought maybe someone may have an idea of making my own. I dont think the wild birds would mind my frugality!

How Can We Stretch Our Food Budget?

Hello, I am the mother of three teenagers, well one of them is only twelve, but my oldest, at only 16 is 6'5 and 230 lbs, and his dad is just as big. My problem is, although we both work, we have a very tight food budget, and I just can't seem to make it to the next payday with our food supplies. I want to cook healthy, I do frozen burritos from time to time, but that just doesn't do it. Any ideas how I can better stretch our food budget while not feeding them junk?

Thank You,

Tina
