I bought cube steaks on sale. Any ideas on how to fix them would be wonderful. Crockpot or oven recipes would be great.

Thanks!

Thanks for this site; I learned new ideas. So let me share my 2 ways of cooking cube steak.
One way: crock pot cube steaks with a can of cream of mushroom soup. Walla! simple dinner over noodles.
Second way:
In a crock pot, layer cube steak, sliced green pepper, diced tomatoes, and italian seasoning. Repeat layers as needed. Cook 6-8 hours. Great with mashed potatoes.

Dredge your cube steak in a mixture of Flour, Salt, and Black Pepper. Brown in preheated non-stick skillet ( you'll need about a tablespoon or two of oil) over medium heat until juices run clear. remove steaks and drain on a paper towel. IN skillet mix in a tablespoon of flour when browned well add 1 cup milk salt and pepper. stir til you have a thinned gravy. add cubed steak back to gravy and cover remove from heat. Serve with favorite veggies or creamed potatoes

Chop up onions as fine as you can get them, then add butter to the pan, then add finely diced onions to butter. Cook till the onions are really soft but not mushy.

Then in another pan, put your cube steak in the pan, cook with Worcestershire sauce till almost cooked, then add the onions you just cooked.then finish cook the meat, make sure your meat stays juicy.

Serve with mashed potatoes, and you favorite vegetable and fruit
drink: sever with milk, or sweet tea.

I first put my cubed steak in egg and lowerys seasoning. I dip it in there real good. Then I flour the steak real good. I then fry it in oil. I make gravy with the remaining oil from frying the steaks. I serve with home made biscuits and rice. With corn on the cob on the side. With a glass of sweet tea to drink. It is a very good meal.

The only way my mother ever prepared cube steak growing up was to egg it, and bread it in a mixture of Italian flavored bread crumbs and parm cheese. Fry the steaks up in some olive oil and serve with mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. People on diets might want to try a different recipe than this one...ENJOY!!!

For this recipe you need:
4 Cube steaks
2 packages Seasoned, crumbled feta cheese (tomato basil or any flavor you like)
toothpicks
2 cans of italian style stewed tomatoes, roughly chopped, liquid reserved

Place a couple of tablespoons of feta cheese in the center of each cube steak. Roll the steaks, pinning them with the toothpicks to keep them together. Then place stuffed cube steaks into a large saute pan on the stove. Pour the tomatoes with their liquid over the steaks and cover. Cook over medium heat on the stove until steaks are cooked through.

This recipe is one of my favorites. It is simple and doesn't cost much. I like to make it for my husband because he loves it, but I also make it for guests because it's sort of fancy and doesn't take much work. And, I always get great feedback after I have served it. Enjoy!

Mix flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a bowl. ( Add just enough to taste) coat both sides of the cube steak and place in large skillet with about 1 tbsp of olive oil. Brown both sides until almost completely cooked through. In a separate bowl mix one can of cream of onion (you can also use cream of celery or cream of mushroom) and a brown gravy mix. I use homestyle jar gravy (for beef). Place your cube steak in the crockpot and cover with the soup and gravy mixture. Place on low and let cook at least 5 hours. The meat comes out so tender. It is my husbands favorite dinner.

This recipe is for Chicken Fried Steak:

4 cube steaks
2 cups flour
1tbsp. pepper
1tbsp. paprika
Eggs
Oil

First blend the dry ingredients together, making sure to mix them nice and well. Mix the eggs together in a separate bowl. Dip the cube steaks in the eggs, then coat them in the flour mixture. Next fry them up on the stove, make sure the oil is about 1 inch thick in your pan. Fry them evenly on both sides or until fully cooked.

Serve with mashed potatoes and/or stuffing. White gravy is awesome on these!

^_^;;;

I'm glad I found this place, before CFS was all I knew how to make with them! Hahahaha.

I want to thank all of you for your ideas on cube steak, my husband brought some home a couple of weeks ago.
I had to get on the Internet for this and your suggestions have saved me.
I did something different I marinaded it in the red wine and he worcestershire sauce and garlic and wrapped it up in alumium foil and put it on the electric grill for the 350 temp. I never cooked this before and with baked potatoes and veggies let me tell you on a hot summer night this was good!
Next I want to try the crock pot recipe that sounds delicious. I have not used my stove for frying meats, in a good five years. Between the crock pots and the pressure cooker those are the only way I cook these days. Quick, simple meals and so. delicious.

BEEF STROGANOFF

Cube steak sliced into strips
1/2 cup red wine
mushrooms
Flour for dredging
Canola Oil
1 cup Sour Cream
Salt and pepper
garlic powder (optional)

Slice cube steak into strips and dredge in flour seasoned with salt and pepper - can add garlic powder too. Note that it is easier to slice when slightly frozen. On top of stove on medium high, brown in Canola oil. Right before meat is completely browned, add wine. Turn burner down to medium and cook until wine is absorbed into the meat. Add mushrooms (canned or pre-cooked fresh mushrooms). Turn burner down to low and add sour cream. Stir and bring the temperature of mixture up to just below boiling (avoids curdling). Serve immediately over rice or egg noodles.

Sometimes I wait to just before dinner to add the sour cream.

Husband loves it!

Flip them in flour and make sure to coat meat well, you can even cut them in half if you prefer smaller portions. Brown them in about two tablespoons of evoo (extra vergin olive oil) and place them in a bake dish. Put them in oven at about 225 degrees F. Boil and mash potatoes. While potatoes are cooking, place two tablespoons of butter in frypan then cooked meat and loosen up the sticky brown pieces off the bottom of pan. Add three tablespoons of flour, pinch of salt and pepper (I add a pinch of garlic). You should have the burner on med. Work it all together and cook a couple of minutes, adding two cups of water (makes the gravy). Serve with a cream or whole kernel corn.

This recipe was one Great Gramma, Gramma and Mom made for Sunday dinner on the farm. We called it Suey Sunday.

Dredge cubed steaks through flour salt and pepper mix. lightly fry each side in oil or butter. We are just trying to seal the meat to hold in the jucies. Place in cassorel pan and cover with Cambells cream of mushroom soup mixed with half can of heavy cream or milk.(one can per four steaks) Add sliced onion if desired. Cover and bake for approx. 2 hours. The soup and beef jucies makes a wonderful gravy. Serve with whipped taters, cole slaw and green beans.

I love cube steak, when it is not cooked to death. I use a spice called Cavenders, it is an all purpose greek seasoning. It can be used on many different meats. I prepare my cube steak by sprinkling about a teaspoon of Cavenders directly on both sides of the cube steak , then flour. Fry them in a thin coat of hot oil on medium until no longer pink inside. Check out the website for more ideas on how to use this spice.

First fix one package stuffing mix.Lay steak flat, place 1/4 cup stuffing on steak. Roll up steak and secure with tooth pick.Next, brown steaks on all sides. Drain and place in 13x9" pan. Next pour soup or gravy over top of steak rolls. You may use any of the following: brown gravy, mushroom gravy....OR cream of mushroom soup or cr. of chicken soup. Cover pan with foil and bake 350* for one hour. You could also do this in crock pot instead of oven.

For cubed steak, all I do is put them in the crockpot with a couple cans of brown gravy and let them cook until tender, add mashed potatoes and you have a great meal, and it's fast and easy, my type of cooking.
Hope this helps....

The only way I have ever made them is a childhood favorite of mine. Season some flour with salt and pepper. Dredge the cube steaks in the flour mixture and brown in margerine. Place in a casserole dish. Put a slice of onion on each one and then cover with one or two cans (depending on how much gravy you want) of mushroom steak sauce or beef consumme. Cover with foil and bake for about 45-60 minutes on 350. Serve with mashed potatoes. Great comfort food!!

I put cube steak in a zip baggie with worchestershire sauce for about 2 hrs to marinate. Then take it out of bag, discard the "marinate" and dredge the meat in seasoned flour, cooking it in a skillet that has been sprayed with "Pam" then added a little oil(not for people dieting),lightly brown the meat(DO NOT COOK IT,JUST BROWN IT),then put in a ovenproof bakeware (example 13x9)along with mushroom soup, green chilis, onion Cover in foil and bake approx 30min @350 until onion is cooked. Remove from oven and let "rest" for a few minutes while you finish up dinner. Serve with Mash Potatoes, and whatever veggies your Family likes. Nice and easy, yet haven't had even a child not like it,so guess it works!!!!! Good luck and happy eating :)

I put some worchestershire sauce in a zip baggie, add the meat, and let it marinate for a couple of hours, then dredge it in seasoned flour and cook until brown on each side(only cooking until brown, not fully cooked),then place them in a cassarole dish (example: 13x9) and cover them with foil and bake them for about 30 minutes at 350,with a mushroom soup mixed with green chilis, onion mixture on it. I serve it with mash potataoes and whatever veggies sound good at the time. I uncover the meat after taking out of oven to let it "set up" before serving.....we like it and hope your family does too.....

Does anyone have any good ways to fix beef cube steaks? I bought 10 packages at a good sale a few weeks ago, but I only know one way to fix them (pan fried w/ gravy).

Grill Them

We love them on the grill. A little worcestershire sauce and some onion powder and it tastes like a chopped steak!

RE: Recipes Using Cube Steaks

I have found this to be a great recipe, dredge the cube steak in flour and fry in pan with shortening. Fry till browned. Add maybe a 1/4 C. flour, about a Tablespoon or more of dried onion, enough gravy master to color and 2 bouillon cubes, add enough water to cover.. Bring back to a boil and reduce heat. Cover and cook about 45 minutes to an hour, still occasionally. Serve with mashed potatoes. Makes a delicious gravy.

RE: Recipes Using Cube Steaks

My mom always made what she called Swiss Steak. You bread the cube steak in flour. Fry on each side in a frying pan and a little oil until the flour is browned. Put in a shallow pan and cover with the following:

A can or two of tomato sauce (depending on how many steaks you are cooking), a tablespoon or two of Worcestershire sauce. You could also add some finely chopped onion and some pepper. Cover with foil and bake at 350 for 45 minutes. They are really tender and yummy. We used to serve them with rice and the tomato sauce after cooking with the steak makes a good gravy.

I make everything with a little of this and a little of that so feel free to add minced garlic or use spaghetti sauce instead or even some salsa (it may not really be Swiss Steak then but who cares. They probably have nothing to do with it anyway).

I think the key here is the steak cooks in the sauce to tenderize it and makes a nice gravy.

RE: Recipes Using Cube Steaks

I spray a little 'Pam' in a non-stick pan. Then I fry them on high until they are a little browned. Then I throw in a can of stewed tomatoes, and let simmer on low for about 20 minutes. Makes them tender, juicy, and tasty! (10/26/2004)

Steak Fingers

You can cut the steaks into strips and flour, salt and pepper them. Then fry them until browned. Then you have "steak fingers." Steak fingers and gravy are YUMMY! (10/29/2004)

RE: Recipes Using Cube Steaks

As a newly wed in 1980 I got this recipe:

Onion Steak (Quick & Easy!)

Roll cubed steak in flour and place in microwave safe dish.

Sprinkle 1 package of Onion Soup Mix all over meat. Add 1 1/2 cups of water. No need to really stir a lot.

Microwave 10-15 minutes till meat is done.

Stir and pour over mashed potatoes or rice. (11/03/2004)

Dredge steaks in milk and egg then dip in saltine cracker crumbs then fry in oil until brown. Serve with potatoes and white gravy for country fried steaks
