I have a microfiber couch, my granddaughter got purple marker on it, the company I bought it from told me to use baby shampoo to clean it, I have tried that and also tried a small amount of alcohol, but neither of these is bringing the marker off, any suggestions? Please help!

So we had a night! My 2 yr old pulled all the keys off my husbands laptop while I was taking a bath Thought I was gonna be dead, but we sat there and fixed each key piece by piece. Then I go back into the living room and INK all over my new micro fiber couch. I freaked! I googled "how to get ink out of micro fiber" and wa la. I was brought here. I didn't have purell sanitizer but I did have some kind of purple kid grape sanitizer. Figured it was worth a try it couldn't get any worse right? It came right out and the purple didn't stain either. At least it does smell grape now, but I can handle that much better than a master piece drawn on my couch.

I'm telling you Purell Hand Sanitizer really works. Just yesterday I accidently marked my sofa with a pen. I immediately google it. One of the sources suggested to use Purell. I did and the pen mark was no more.

The purel worked great at removing a pen mark. I also have used spray and wash to clean up deeper stains from makeup, nail polish etc. It works great also for an overall cleaning of the couch!

Another 2 year old with a blue pen on a tan microfiber couch- Purell worked great. You can still see the pen marks a bit, but the couch looks 95% better than it did before I tried Purell on it.

Even with all of these posts saying this worked, I was very skeptical. That is until the moment I put the sanitizer on the ink. Wow! This worked so well and was so easy. I am SO relieved!

My niece accidentally sat on an open black gel ink pen, on top of our WHITE microfiber chair! Though the blob of ink was considerably dense and large, the sanitizer lifted almost all of the ink out of the chair and looked even better after it dried! Thank you for the suggestions!

Obviously some people do not read everything & didn't notice that this was postings for MICROFIBER FURNITURE not "cotton velvet blend".
PURELL sanitizer worked wonders!!! I have a son who will be 2 at the end of this month and he decided to draw all over my couch with a blue ball point pen. I freaked. I have a light/medium brown microfiber Couch that was not cheap and is brand new. Terrible two's, here we come. Anyway, I foud this site and tried the Purell and OMG!!! It's gone!!!! I was a litle skeptical but It freakin works! I am gonna try and post before and after pictures! I RECOMMEND ANYONE THAT HAS CHILDREN OR PLANS ON HAVING KIDS TO PURCHASE MICROFIBER FURNITURE AND THEN A FEW YEARS SUPPLY OF HAND SANITIZER!! IT IS AWESOME!! MY COUCH NOW LOOKS BRAND NEW AGAIN!!

My couch is not microfiber, it's a cotton velvet blend. I didn't see anything else on the web that sounded any better so I tried Hand Sanitizer and alcohol. My black ink mark now looks even worse, just having spread out. The best solution was just to flip the cushion. Just a caution to anyone who reads these posts and things that this is some amazing cure-all.

Purell is the way to go. Put it on a soft white cloth, swipe it on and rub it off. Gone in 30 seconds. Purell will also remove permanent markers from counters, whiteboards, etc.

My son just took a tour with a purple marker on our 2 hour old microfiber loveseat and chair -- my Mother's Day present! I used mild soap and water, blotting, as the instructions on the sofa said, but it didn't appear to be working well, so I ran to the store to buy some Purel. It works, thank goodness. I would suggest using a white t-shirt rather than a towel, making sure to put a thin layer of the Purel on the t-shirt so that it doesn't glob in one spot. Don't rub hard; just run your finger (under the t-shirt) over the mark. I did it in the opposite direction my son took.

While she was in a huge TIME OUT, I ran to the computer and googled around for help. I tried the hand sanitizer and it's a miracle. THANK YOU! This morning my 2 year old son took a blue ink pen to both my microfiber loveseat and my recliner. I was so upset until I read that hand sanitizer would take it out. I went and grabbed a bottle of Purell hand sanitizer, and to my excitement the ink came out right away with just a few drops and about 5 seconds of rubbing with a dry towel on each spot! I even tried it on a couple of old ink marks from about 4 months ago and it took those out too! Thanks for the help!

ANYTHING is supposed to come off of a microfiber sofa with a basic alcohol solution. When we bought our sofa, the salesman wrote our phone number on one of the cushions with a ball-point pen and then cleaned it off with the solution in a spray bottle and a terrycloth towel. We were SOLD!
If alcohol solution does not work, try Mostenbocker's (can be found in the cleaning aisle at Home Depot). There are several different Mostenbocker formulas - I've used #3 to successfully remove dried, red NAIL POLISH from a WHITE down comforter. It's a little labor intestive, but it's AMAZING. I've also used another one of their formulas (#7?) to remove melted chewing gum from the cloth upholstery in my car. Their cleaning products are second to none.

My wife was playing around and accidentally threw an open ball point pen my way while I was sitting on our brand new microfiber recliner, it made a black ink mark on it and, needless to say, I was not happy. After searching the net, I found this post with possible solutions. I tried the hand sanitizer since I did not have rubbing alcohol readily available and because I wanted to hurry and address the problem. IT WORKED like a charm! WOW, I placed a dab only on the spot impacted, rather than rubbing it in and not leaving it to soak I immediately used a clean and dry cotton wash cloth and used brisk sweeping motions in every again on the spot. The area first grew wet looking (understandably) even though I was not rubbing it in and even though it had not soaked in, this seemed to be a natural occurrence though. After about 3 to 5 minutes of the lightly brushing and very delicate stroking technique the wettened area began to dry and revealed the spot was gone, no rub marks, no discoloration and no stain whatsoever. Really cool, you know I bet if you asked her my wife would not admit it in conversation with a stranger but I could tell she was quite relieved it came out. sincerely, collective sigh

Wow! I am soooo thrilled! My son drew all over my new cream colored micro-fiber couch (again!) and this time after an hour of using the solvent that came with the couch and it was hardly budging I tried the alcohol and it worked immediately! Looks brand new again! I was scared to try it because I didn't want to make it worse, but I tried anyway as I thought it would be best to do it on the fresh ink asap. Thank you!

My 2 year old son drew a large picture on my cream color microfiber sofa with blue ink. After reading a few peoples suggestions from this link, I used rubbing alcohol. It worked pretty good, although when it is still wet you can still see it. I used a blow dryer which made the ink fade a lot quicker, however, I initially started with the blow dryer on hot air. After realizing this was then leaving burn marks I changed to cool. Thanks for all the feedback.

My couches are a very light, light tan color; they even almost look white. My kids got crayons on them before and I got it out simply by using soap and water. I have a slightly bigger problem now. My 2 and 3 yr olds happened to write on them in blue ink. I tried alcohol, and it worked for most of them, but I still have two spots that aren't coming up. What do I do?
Oh yes.. There was one more problem. After I use the rubbing alcohol, it dried and now I have spots that look like "wet dried spots" all over my couches. Now what do I do?! I'd appreciate any advice!

Alcohol worked for me. My daughter scribbled all over the back of my recliner. I bought it used but I love it and I hated the thought of having pen all over it. I tried hairspray and wipes and it worked okay but the alcohol took it right out. You could see it coming out on the cloth. Some baby wipes and hairspray have alcohol so the alcohol is probably the key here. Good luck to anyone else with this problem:)

Just bought a Mocha Brown Microfiber sofa off Craigslist and...It was beautiful on the computer until I saw it in real life! It is filthy but cheap. I thought it had good bones and could get the spots out of it myself. So I should have waited to pick it up but it was so far from home I didn't want to drive all this way again. So I had the Fella put it in my truck. He had some rope & roped it in my truck for me not to just be nice but to get rid of the sofa that he needed gone because he was moving to NY. I was hesitant about the way he tied it in but he was an Engineer and I trusted him being a college Grad and all. He tied some small rope to either side of the truck but not the 2nd half of the sofa where it sat up high. He said it would be fine on the top there the weight will hold it down he says. Are you sure I say? Well I'm driving along a little tense worry about my precious cargo and suddently people are honking at me. I think why are they honking? Everything should be fine I don't see anything on the road behind me. People are honking and pointing. Then I decide to pull over and see half of my sofa is gone! The piece on top that wasn't suppose to move was gone! I start driving backwards slowly on the emergency lane and there she was out in the 2nd lane! It didn't look smashed up like I thought it would be I think yes if only I can get to it - it will be OK. But then sitting out there in the commuter traffic a car hits it and skids into a half circle!!! Oh my God I say, Oh my God...Cars & Semi trucks skiding and screaching across lanes and spinning out all over the place! Now it's wrecked I think and I'm shaking with Fear that someone could have been killed! A car pulls over to examing the damage on his car. He sits there awhile. Meanwhile I had this nice Semi Truck Driver pull over and help me haul the other half of the Sofa to the curb (4 lanes of traffic stopped at this time just like in the movies). This nice guy from Nigeruga (sp?) tied these lots of rope over the sofa so good I would have to cut that rope off to get it out of my truck when I got home. Thank you Mr. Truck Driver for Random Acts of Kindness! I am now so determined to make this couch beautiful & stain free. I went through Hell to get this and it's sitting here next to me smelling like Curry (I hate Curry) and Thanks to the Truck driver in Brentwood I wouldn't have it here now next to me if he weren't so kind. The Sofa is missing 3 feet and has a corner missing. But hey it's in a hidden area, also they're are some skid marks but hopefully they will clean out? So to make a long story short How do I clean this X&^%$@ Thing? My husband just suggested Baby Wipes. Good Idea???? I will post a before & after picture after I clean it and get the after "Shot".

Had multiple (100,s) of ball point pen marks on my new microfiber sectional (enter DOH!! emoticon here) alchohol worked perfect. It gave me courage to try putting alchohol on my new couch. Both alchohols worked great (smiley face emoticon) q-tips were kind of small so I used cotton cleansing pads that covered a larger area. Mike

| I have had good luck with using powdered "Oxy Clean" to get rid of ink out of a synthetic carpet. I mixed a spoonful into a cup of warm water and dribbled it on the stain. (The stain was months old and the size of a quarter.) I then started blotting it up, not rubbing, with a white towel. I did this several times, dribbling on more Oxy Clean as needed. It kept coming up and coming up. I then gave it a good dose of solution again and let it sit overnight. By morning, the stain had disappeared! It did not remove any color from the carpet.
This solution dribbled on spilled wine makes it disappear just like on TV. I was amazed. I have had similar luck on other fabric items and clothing. I WOULD recommend testing on an inconspicuous area first.
Good Luck! |

| I believe what you are suppose to use on micro fiber for stains is rubbing alcohol. You put it on a clean white cloth, then on the fabric and it should come off and then the moisture should evaporate and get dry on the fabric after cleaning. |

| My friend has 6 kids and white microfiber furniture, when she told me she's gotten tomato soup, crayon, and ball point pen out with a rag and water - I purchased 2 sage green microfiber couches a week ago! The sales lady told me to start with plain water, if that doesn't work try Ivory soap in any form-liquid or bar as it has no ph and won't leave a water ring. Also, check if you have a warranty - for $50 per couch if there's ever a stain I can't get out, they'll send someone to my home to clean it. If they can't get it out they'll, replace the couch free for the next 5 years. |

| Try a little rubbing alcohol. If that doesn't work, use hair spray (aerosol, not pump). |

Request:
How can I get ink out of my microfiber sofa?
Marjorie from Staten Island, NY
Answers:
There is a cleaner just for microfiber that we received from Rooms to go when we purchased our furniture but you can also get it from bed bath and beyond. You just place the cleaner on there an rub it out with a towel, it should disappear. I wrote on the couch accidentally while writing thank you notes, it came right out.
