This is Patches, he is a Shiapoo. Human years: 7 years old, Dog years: 57 years old in Feb 2010. We bought him from a dog farm/pound on February 7, 2003. He likes to eat, sleep on one of our laps. Dig through purses trying to find treats (our one daughter in law started this and he does it to every purse he can now), go for long walks and pee on every bush in existence, get a new toy and rip out the sqeaking part of toy, eat, sleep on anyone's lap. Play with other animals. His best friend is the cat next door. One of his best friends is our granddaughters 130 pound Lab. Having his ears scratched, being combed nightly, taking a bath every 6 weeks and having his hair clipped really short. Eat, sleep and if no lap is available will settle for his favorite spot on the couch. In other words while many would consider him a dog he considers himself the head of the household. Our five grown children complain about Patches because he gets whatever he wants. He is most likely treated better than our children when they were growing up. Guess what? Most likely he is, but he never asks for money or to borrow the car! By David from O Fallon, MO Contest Contender!

Used Dryer Sheets to Wipe Down Dog I keep my used dryer sheets in a tissue box, and when my dogs come in from being outside (especially from the rain) I wipe them down with a dryer sheet. It still has some fragrance and removes loose hair. They smell better and it helps with shedding. It also helps dry them off if it has been raining. Just another way to reuse and recycle! I recently washed and dried a pen in a my husbands pants pocket. Needless to say, the dryer was filled with spots of ink. A friend suggested, I soak some all white towels in bleach, ring them out, and run the dryer through a cycle or two. It was like magic! The ink had virtually disappeared and the towels were also spotless. Amazing. A real elbow grease saver. Source: A smart friend. By Wildmoonchild from Mountaindale, NY Contest Contender!

Do You Really Need "New" Clothes? Think honestly to yourself. Most of us only use maybe 20% of the apparel in our closets and dresser drawers! Why not resist the impulse to have something new simply to have something new and we usually purchase on impulse anyway. Mix and match what you already have. Browse through current magazines and pay attention to how others dress in your location for ideas and inspiration for updating with what you already have. If there is something you 'need' see if it can be found at a Goodwill or Salvation Army store first. Not only does that save you oodles of money but the proceeds of that purchase also contributes to helping the needy. Vaseline to Weatherproof Screws A handy tip if you are using screws outside for any purpose. Dip the screw point in some Vaseline, or grease before you screw it into the wood, or wall, this will put a kind of weather proof coat over it. Plus, if you also smear some over the screw head this will help it from rusting up, and will make it easy if and when you need to get them out. Turn Off the Lights Kids (or it Will Cost You) Teach kids the value of turning off lights as they leave a room by implying to them that each time costs (for instance) $1. Explain to them that the lights cost money every month and if you have to turn the lights out for them, each time you do that, charge them $1. My step-son was into it for $8 before he grasped the concept, but after that he realized to turn out lights he wasn't using. Then, it was no longer a "problem" Source: home tested, kid and mom approved! By Melody_yesterday from Otterville MO Contest Contender!

Give to Food Banks in Lieu of Christmas Gifts Instead of buying Christmas gifts for people who already have everything they need, try donating some food to your local food bank. Send each person who might be thinking they will get a gift from you a note telling them that you gave their "gift" to a needy family this year and thank them! You can include a copy of the grocery receipt. I do the same thing with the "Angel Trees" every year. You can also volunteer time at the soup kitchens serving needy people a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner as a way of being thankful for all you have. This is a great lesson for kids as well. If you have the money, you can also adopt a family in your community and buy them things they need instead. This is a great project if several families get together since they would have more money to spend. Remember that some kids would appreciate a new pair of shoes rather than a toy! Believe it or not, some kids on the Angel Trees (teens especially) ask for under clothes. Just remember all that you have and imagine, if you needed underwear, that would embarrass you. You will feel good about what you have done and know that you have helped the world be a kinder place for a family/children in need. By Wolfbytez from Brownsville, OR Contest Contender!

Cleaning a Narrow Necked Glass Decanter I have a very deep crystal decanter and it is impossible to clean the inside. I have even I put rice and vinegar and shaken it or put a cloth in it. The cloth couldn't go to the upper part of the lower wide part of my decanter. There is (I guess) a water/lime stain that needs to to be wiped with something, but that is impossible to reach. I am looking for some kind of liquid cleaner that can be shaken inside it or some other ways to clean it. Thanks. Rate It: I'm having a murder mystery party on Halloween. It's about these immortals (most are royal) going to their annual costume ball. I'm using my whole downstairs for the party. I'm planning on making the living room the room with music and dancing, drinks in the kitchen, snacks/refreshments in the dining room, and the crime scene in the computer room. The foyer will just be the entrance like it is on a normal day. I want to decorate it like a ballroom, but it's for immortals on Halloween so I want it to be elegant and mysterious with some Halloween flair to it. I was going to light a bunch of candles for soft light to try to create that effect, though I'm also thinking about doing Christmas lights. Which would be better? I'm also going to divide up the room with streamers (some orange and black, some purple and silver) in order to allow people to have private conversations/commit murder in the game, etc. Otherwise I'm completely stuck. Any ideas? By Ashley from Apex, NC Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf51344956.tip.html

Rate It: Cleaning Soap Scum Off Slate Tiles On the shower walls of one of our bathrooms we have slate on the walls. The slate is all uneven and all different colors, I love it. Technically it's my husband's bathroom and he hates everything about the slate (he picked it out). We already spent the money refinishing the house, so it's not going to be able to be changed anytime soon. Anyway, the slate tiles have gotten soap scum on them and I don't know how to get it off. When the tile was installed it was sealed. We want to seal it again, because some time has gone by, but I need to get the soap scum off of it first. Does anyone have a suggestion for me please? I've looked on HSN and QVC because they have so many cleaning products available, but no luck.
