Craft: Personalized Wood Frames

I went to Micheal`s Craft store and bought those plain wood frames for $1 that you can paint, I also bought some cute kid decals for decorating them. It was simple, just painted bright fun colors on each side with acrylic paint and a sponge brush. Then I used lettering decals to put their name. I did one of each of my grandsons, and have a grand daughter arriving in 2 weeks, one more to make!

Yumi (Pembroke Welsh Corgi)

Yumi is about 6 months old born on March 25, 2009. Yumi is a pure bred Pembroke Welsh Corgi. We got Yumi when she was 11 weeks old, we've been wanting to add a new member to our family so we started researching on the net. When we came across a corgi breeder on a website from Missouri, we found Yumi and we fell in love with her. We picked her up from the airport and fell in love even more and haven't stop obsessing over her cuteness since.

Yumi will do anything for food and cookies! She enjoys doing tricks on command such as: roll over, playing dead, doing circles, jump, crawl, catch, etc. She loves sleeping, eating, more sleeping, more eating, more sleeping, running around, her favorite game of all is 'find the cookie' where we hide it and she finds it even in the hardest places!

Yumi is the sweetest thing anyone could ask for. She is so smart, talented and makes us smile, laugh and puts us in a better mood everyday and we couldn't ask for more.

Molly and Oliver (Dachshunds)

Molly and Oliver are Dachshunds! They are best friends. They play together all the time. They are so funny together! They act just alike.

Molly is 2 years old. I Bought Molly from a friend in March 2007. She likes to dig, bark at birds, relax on the back of the couch, and run around the house really fast! I love my Molly, she makes me smile every time I look at her :D

Oliver is 4 months old. I got him recently from a friend who had a litter. I Couldn't resist. He likes to chew on flip flops and rugs. He has a very unique personality!

Chloe (Blue Heeler Mix)

Chloe is a nine year old Blue Heeler mix. I moved in with my soul mate, Gerry, 3 years ago, and he had Chloe already. He said he acquired her from the SPCA. She had been dropped off at a gas station as a young dog and was left wandering around there.

She likes to Eat! Chloe is a great dog. She is quiet. Rarely barks, doesn't jump on people, or scare them and she loves welcoming company at the door.

Today's Tips:

Clean Scotch Brite Pads in Dish Washer

I use those little green pads. (Scotch Brite), to scrub the dishes, pot and pans and kitchen sink. If they are not too gross, I clothespin them to the rack of the dishwasher along with a load of dishes. I do this often so I don't have germy pads. Of course if they are too dirty, I throw them away.

Office Supply Gift Box for Kids

Consider giving a child you know a box of "office" supplies as a gift. You can fill it with things like a stapler, tape dispenser and tape, glue, notebooks, colorful pens and pencils, scissors, erasers, paper clips, self-stick note pads, stamps and stamp pads, etc. This kind of gift can offer hours of fun playing office, store, library, and school, and may spark an interest in crafting and inventing. It will also supply items needed for homework and special school assignments. It may seem a little simple and a little unusual, but what could be more exciting than opening a big box and finding it stuffed with little treasures?

Cleaning A Clogged Drain

These ideas may or may not work for a really badly clogged drain, depending on what's clogging it, but it's worth a try.

Mix 1 cup salt, 1 cup baking soda, and 1/4 cup cream of tartar. Pour 1/4 cup of the mixture in the drain and add 1 quart of warm water. Keep extra mixture in an airtight container for regular cleaning maintenance to help keep the drains from clogging in the first place.

The other idea is to drop three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of distilled white vinegar.

Recycling Packing Paper

I order a lot online and recently I have noticed that instead of "peanuts" the packages are arriving now packed with a generous supply of very nice brown paper. It's very much like butchers paper.

Instead of throwing this away I take and smooth it out. Sometimes I run an iron over it on a low setting. I then store it in the bottom of my cabinet. There are some very long pieces. These are really great to use as paper towels or draining fried foods. My brother even used a piece to patch a small hole in the wall before painting.

I also use them for crafting and it makes great art paper for children. I find a use for them nearly every day.

Watch Price Tags for Sale Items

Did you that you can get a bargain at Sam's Club? Sam's doesn't have sales. So to know if you are getting a true bargain look for things ending with .01 cent. For example $10.81. Those are their markdowns.

Questionnaire to Get to Know Kids Better

Here is an idea for youngsters you care about but aren't readily accessible. I printed this out a couple times and gave it to my kids with a diary for each of them. This gives you a way to know more about these young people; things to do, gifts to give. I hope you find this useful. It may be useful to someone you know.

Get a small notebook (or a diary book) and write about the following things. Start with the first thing; write as much as you want on as many pages as you need. Then start on a new page and write about the next thing. Some responses to things might be too short for a whole page so just skip a few lines and start on the next thing. Just take some time to really think of your answers.

Work on it over a couple days. If you think of a different answer for a question you have already answered go back and add the new answer but don't erase the old. The first answer you think of is usually the right one but not always.

You could actually get a diary and fill it out this way and give it to me for Chrismas. Or even Christmas next year. This would be very special to me.

  • Favorite things: color, food, music, clothes, animals, plant, insects, actor/actress, singer/band, TV show, movie, cartoon, subject in school, sport to play, sport to watch, person, vehicle, website, gadget, holiday, smell, profession, candy and anything else you really like a lot. Tell me why these things are your favorites.

  • Place you would like to visit?

  • What you would like to be when you grow up and why?

  • Who do you admire?

  • What do you think about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and church?

  • What do you like to do on the computer?

  • What electronic games do you have (hand held and ones that hook up to a TV). Include those your brother or sister owns that you are allowed to play with. If there is one you would like to have, mention that too.

  • s there any particular day you would like to be with me?

  • If you could do any one thing with me what would it be?

  • Do you have a secret you would like to tell me and no one else?

  • If you were given $20, what would you spend it on? How about $50? How about $100?

  • Would you like to have pictures of anything?

  • What do you dislike (go over the list of things you like and list the dis-likes for those topics)?

  • What do you hate?

  • If you could have anything in the world as your prized possession what would it be?

  • Sizes: shoes, preferred socks and size, pants, shirt, head (inches around), glove and ring size.

If you need help ask a brother or sister or a close friend not an adult. Adults don't think the way children think and may not give the best answer.

Use Netflix for DVDs

The first thing saving me the most money is Netflix, $8.99 a month verses $4.99 a movie at rental places, and we were renting 2 per weekend.

Yes, there is the Redbox, but I think the movies are limited and you feel under duress while others behind you wait, and you have to return it in 24 hours.

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

"If there are any idiots in the room, will they please stand up," said the sarcastic teacher. After a long silence, one freshman rose to his feet.

"Now then mister, why do you consider yourself an idiot?" inquired the teacher with a sneer.

"Well, actually I don't," said the student, "but I hate to see you standing all by yourself."

Freezing Deli Cheese

I would like to freeze "Super Hot Pepper" cheese from my local deli. I have one of those "Food Savers" food sealing systems. I will be freezing them in 1lb. individual packages. I have several questions:

  1. Can I freeze this type of cheese?
  2. Should I have the deli slice the cheese for me into individual slices or slice them into 1lb. blocks?
  3. How long can they stay in the freezer?
  4. Will they lose any flavor when I thaw them out?
  5. Once thawed out, how long will they stay good to eat?

Food Saver recommends freezing items for approx 1-2 hours before sealing them in their bags and then placing them in the freezer for storage.

Problems With Automatic Computer Updating

For several months I have been trying to get my computer to do updates. It is set for auto update. I have turned off my firewall (and on w/anti-virus stuff off) and antivirus stuff, etc. and even though my security settings say Norton AV is off, once in a while a message pops up saying Norton is scanning or updating. And my other updates won't update.

I have had Norton AV for a while so I don't think that is what is causing it. I keep getting the error message "80072 EFD". I have followed the advice on the help menu, I have contacted the company and I just get emails saying I should get an email in 24 hours, yet I never do. It is so aggravating. My computer is less than two years old, it shouldn't be doing this.

Doggie Diapers Won't Stay On

My dog is in heat and her diaper won't stay on at night. She is a French Bulldog and has no tail so the diaper isn't really working. I don't want to keep her just in the kitchen area and she usually sleeps with me. I feel bad making her sleep elsewhere she is already a bit mopey.

Please don't lecture me on getting her fixed, she is 8.5 months and I didn't realize her first cycle would come this quick. I need help; I tried putting a baby onesie one her and she just didn't look comfortable, so that obviously doesn't work. I'm using the non-disposable diaper (cloth one w/pads).

Primer Not Adhering to Bathroom Wall

I've been applying primer to my bathroom's formerly yellow walls with relatively good results until I noticed the paint over the toilet section of the wall wasn't adhering as well as the rest. I vaguely recall pulling off a piece of something or other sticking out and then, to my shock and amazement, the primer just kept peeling and peeling, taking what appears to be the previous yellow coat of paint with it.

Underneath lies a lighter shade of yellow. Perhaps this is a tinted primer? Anyway, I've tried sanding a small section of the torn area, wiping away dust with a damp cloth, and reapplying the primer, but as soon as the primer makes contact with the edge of primer/underlying mystery surface, it becomes soft and pliable once more.

I'm not really sure what the problem is. I don't want to peel off the whole wall of primer/paint if that isn't the problem. I'm thinking the primer reacted as it did because I applied too thick a coat in that area. Please help.

Activities for Special Needs Seniors

I am taking care of 70 year old woman whose husband died 3 months ago. She has a PHD in psychology. She abruptly stopped drinking due to a broken hip and shoulder. She has a touch of dementia and suicidal thoughts. (yes, I've got my hands full). I live with her 96 hours, 4 days on and 3 off. There is no one else to help.

I'm trying to get ideas for things to do. Even something as simple as going outside by the pool. She has interest in nothing. She at one time was extremely artistic. Now it is nothing, but sitting in front of her laptop. I don't want to insult her with "paint by numbers" and that sort of stuff. She was 11 when she left her country, Hungry. Help us, please.
