RE: Emerson Complete Stereo System, with AM/FM Stereo Radio, CD and Cassette Player and Full Size Stereo Phonograph--MODEL: NR305TT - S/N: 50805034CA.
I have never been able to use the cassette player because it sounds like chipmunks singing really fast. Possibly a factory defect? Any suggestions and/or perhaps even a forum website might be helpful. My warranty has now expired. Thanks in advance.
The cassette player capstan roller may be dirty or hardened with age, so it cannot properly squeeze the tape against the capstan shaft (which controls the speed) when a tape is trying to play. Without a cassette in the player, try to find the small rubber roller wheel. Visualize where the exposed tape on the side of a cassette is when the cassette is installed. The roller should be next to a thin polished steel shaft (the capstan).
You may have to temporarily remove the plastic door to the cassette compartment for easy access. When you can get to the roller, dip a q-tip cotton swab in alcohol and scrub the rim of the roller, moving the roller with your finger to clean the whole outside circumference. If possible, clean the capstan shaft and the playback head as well. Re-attach the plastic door if necessary. Let it dry a bit and try a tape. I hope this helps.
From one music lover to another ~ I also have one of the Emerson's Complete Stereo Systems. Everything works fine except the record player which has quit playing - now what to do? (My warranty has also expired). I bought it especially for the record player because I have hundreds of old albums & 45's that I would like to hear again. Wish I could help you, but I'm in the same predicament so if any of you other tipsters know how to help us reconcile our problems, we'd both be very appreciative. Thanks in advance.
