Wedding Decorations - Borrow, Borrow, Borrow!

My biggest tip for wedding decorations is borrow, borrow, borrow! We borrowed as much greenery, lights, tulle, gossamer, etc. as we could. We also borrowed dishes, punch bowls, serving bowls, etc. for the reception.

T-Shirt Pillow
By Kelli Mahoney

These are a great way for you to preserve your old t-shirts rather than keeping them in a drawer. Often our t-shirts have messages that bring us back to events in our lives with fond memories. By creating pillows out of your t-shirts, you can keep those memories without keeping them hidden in the dresser.

Summer Fun Scrapbook Page
By Kelli Mahoney

These pages were based on a trip we took to a resort called the Kalahari. Everything there had a Safari theme, so I made sure the scrapbook pages reflected that. The key to any good scrapbook page is layering. If you layer papers with different designs, you get a more dramatic effect. The faces have been covered to protect the identity of those persons involved.

Sydney (Australian Shepherd/Collie)

This is my dog Sydney. I rescued her from the animal shelter when she was 10 weeks old. She will be 2 in September. She's an Australian Shepherd/Collie mix. Sydney loves to play ball!

Add Milled Flax Seed to Meat Loaf

To add nutrition to meatloaf and other foods, I add Milled Flax Seed to it instead of oatmeal or bread. This way I am sneaking in great nutrition into my families dinner, but they don't even know it.

Coupon Tips

Tips for finding and using coupons. Post your ideas.

Coupons on Sales Receipts

It pays me to watch for local discount coupons to area stores.

Four times a year for about 45 days each time, a local grocery store runs discount coupons to area businesses on the back of the register receipt.

Two of the coupons are for local restaurants and while the amounts are not large (10% off to a Mexican restaurant and $2 off per entree at another restaurant), the discount is enough to encourage us to go when we have a coupon.

Frequently, we will team the coupon up with their featured dinner of the night, and the end result is that it more than compensates us for clipping the coupon.

I also frequent a beauty shop for hair cuts that offers a punch card, and when I have paid for 10 haircuts, I get the next one free.

Additionally, we frequent a movie rental establishment that offers a "rent-so-many, get-one free".

Tonight, we ate at the Mexican restaurant with a discount coupon, got my hair cut for free, and rented a DVD for free. All that on less than $20.

Returning Products by Mail

If returning a product through the mail, when you send it back always get a delivery confirmation. That way, someone there has to sign for it and cannot dispute you and say they never received it.

Berries and Grape Nuts

Take advantage of summer berries on sale! Added to yogurt, and sprinkled with generic grape nuts, this makes a great breakfast treat for even my picky eaters! Of course, it can be served anytime, as an afternoon snack or desert.

Shopping with Cash

I always spend less money if I use cash instead of my debit card or check book.

An excellent tip that I have used for years is so easy. When I shop, I always use money. When my change back consists of loose change, I always throw it in the bottom of my purse, instead of placing it back in my change compartment. At the end of the week, I empty all the change I've collected for that week in my change jar at home. I don't touch it till it's filled. Then I go to the bank with the change and deposit it into savings. It's always amazing how much I've saved by a simple task.

Soaping the Outside of Pots

Always take soap with you. Of course you can clean up with it, but it is also useful for protecting your pans from smoke and fire damage. Before you place your meal items in your cooking pots and pans, completely soap the outside with liquid soap or soap lather. The black residue will wash off a lot easier using this pre-cooking method. Of course you know not to soap the inside, right?

Cleaning a BBQ Grill

Tips for cleaning a Barbeque grill. Post your ideas.

Hate To Clean That Expensive Gas BBQ Grill?

Take the grates off and run in the dishwasher on hot wash and dry, remove as soon as the dishwasher is done, they will still be hot, use a pot holder to remove. There will still be some stuck on drippings, minus the grease. Proceed to finish the cleaning in your sink. You'd be amazed on how easy they will be to clean.

Dealing with Mail and Shipments While on Vacation

If you are into traveling a lot, you probably already have someone to pickup your newspapers, mail (or have the post office to hold it), but what about anything you might have dropped off to your home by UPS or FED-EX? Some pals of ours thought they'd taken care of everything before leaving on their trip until they arrived home to find 2 boxes of quality fresh fruit (from Harry and David's Fruit of the Month Club) rotting on their porch!

What to do About Armpit Odor

Ok, this one is so embarassing but I am at a loss right now. I get stinky armpits almost everyday. I don't sweat, it is just odor. I have tried literally every women's deodorant there is on the market but none help. Any suggestions? Should I see a dermatologist?

Getting Rid of Bed Bugs

I know my home has BED BUGS. Is it true that thyme will actually get rid of them? I've been trying everything since January of 2005. Even had the pest control in my home 3 times. I used bombs, sprays the whole nine yards. If you have had bed bugs and gotten rid of them with thyme let me know. I would love to hear from previous bed bug victims.

Smelly Leather Couch

I have an old comfy orange leather couch that needs help. After enduring 15 years of two dogs and two kids, it's a bit stained and smelly. I've tried Febreeze and leather cleaner but the stains are still there (and so is the smell). I don't want to get rid of it because (A) it's in great condition - (no rips) and (B) it has sentimental value (it was the first major purchase for my husband and I.) I regret that we never took the time to clean and condition the leather but we didn't know how important that was - until now!

Any suggestions? Thanks!
Ricki

Dog With Eye Infection

My Maltese left eye has become infected over the last 2 to 3 days. He's keeping it shut but opens more when excited about getting his treat. He seems to be sleeping more and shivering more than normal. What do you think? If he just has pink eye, is there a home solution I can use or something over the counter I can buy?

Thanks for any helpful feedback.

Uses for Body Lotion

I have so many bottles of nice body lotion. There is only so much of it that can be used before it loses its color or fragrance. Is there a way to combine the lotion with liquid soap to make a nice fragrant hand soap? Or can the lotion be combined with plain bar soap and put into a hand pump dispenser? Does anyone know the proportions? Thanks for any and all tips.

Slugs Inside My House

Hello to you all out there in cyber land, I was looking around the net and thought that someone out there would possibly help my dilemma.

For a few weeks now my wife and I have been getting up from bed, coming down stairs to the kitchen to make breakfast for the kids, only to find SLUG trails on the kitchen floor, we have tried to find out where they could be coming from but with no luck. Once we think we have got rid of the pests they are back again we have managed to catch 3-4 of them but unfortunately they are still here.

Please Help,
Martyn Williams
