Turbo (Chocolate Lab/Boxer)

Turbo is 5 months old, she is 1/2 Chocolate Lab and 1/2 Boxer. We got Turbo two months ago. She is a puppy so she loves to chew up things. She likes to chase and wrestle with our two year old son and our 3 year old Black Lab Shelby and all of the neighborhood dogs.

Turbo loves to share her kennel with Drew, our two year old son.

Today's Tips:

Make Cinnamon Ornaments For Christmas

When making long lasting, nicely scented Christmas decorations with the kids, mix white school glue and LOTS of cinnamon (until you get a doughy consistency). Roll this out and use your favorite holiday cookie cutters to cut out shapes for ornaments! Make a hole in the 'cookie' with a straw, then bake in the oven at a low temp until the ornaments are dry. When rolling out your dough, use more cinnamon as the 'flour' you would otherwise use when rolling cookies for cutting. After the ornaments are dried, string colorful ribbon through the hole, hang and enjoy! I made my first set of these almost 20 years ago and I can still smell them!

If you don't want to dry them in the oven, you can sit them in a sunny window, undisturbed, for a week or more to air dry.

Look for Gift Card Deals at Restaurants

If you like to eat out, look for discount restaurant deals. Last year, Chili's ran a deal where if you bought a $25 gift card, you got a $5 free. You could get three of them (I think). So spend $75 and get $15 free. You can ask for different denominations as well if you want to use them as gifts or save them. They don't really expire so you can use them for a while.

Use Cloves To Relieve Sore In Mouth

Recently I developed a cold sore in my mouth, and had no medicine to relieve the pain. My wife gave me a cotton ball covered in ground cloves. I put it on the sore and it relieved the pain within minutes.

Stretch Your Bath Powder With Cornstarch

Extend your nicely scented bath powder by combining it with an equal amount of cornstarch in a larger container. Many powders have cornstarch as their main active ingredient anyway, and it is a great drying agent, so now you'll have double the amount, and it will still be scented. I have been doing this for years and it has saved a bundle. I couldn't live without my after bath/shower powder.

Keep Track of Prices on Common Purchases

Keep a small list of what you pay for items that you buy often. Then, when you're at another grocery/department store, you'll know if their special is really a special.

Ordinary Box As A Gift

Here's a great way to save money on gifts and get the kids involved too. This particular gift idea is so easy and says "I love you" so well. Make several of these keepsakes and give them to grandparents, aunts, uncles, and anyone who needs a smile.

The best, inexpensive Christmas gift I ever received was from my daughter when she was in elementary school. The class took small empty boxes (toothpaste, jewelry gift boxes, etc.), wrapped them in wrapping paper, then tied them up with curling ribbon. Attached to the box was this note:

I took an ordinary box
As empty as can be
I filled it with a special gift
And wrapped it carefully.

But please don't ever open it
Just leave the ribbon tied
And hold it tightly near your heart
Because my love for you is inside!

I loved this gift and will keep it FOREVER. This would be a good class project for elementary school students or for a Sunday School class.

Sunday School Craft

Last Sunday started Sunday school at church. I had my students answer some questions on a paper. They were questions about themselves including asking them their favorite place in the church it self. I plan on taking their photo in that favorite place and combining the written words on the questionnaire as a craft. I thought I had a good idea but don't know how to implement it or on what. Any ideas? Thanks.

Caring for Lilac Saplings in the Winter

I have three brand new Lilac bushes and it is starting to get very cold here at night. 38 degrees this morning. I am wondering if it will hurt these young saplings to keep them inside for the winter or if it is wiser to go ahead and plant them outside before the first snow really hits which of course could be any time.

Removing Cooking Oil From Wall

Sometimes when I cook oil splashes on the wall and I've been trying to paint over the oil spots. However, when I paint over the spots after a few hours you can see the oil spots again. Please tell me what I am doing wrong. I thought about putting up wallpaper in that area but I have 3 electrical sockets in the way. It is a small area only 5 inches wide and about 48 inches long.

Dealing with Disgusting Emails

I keep getting disgusting emails. I tried to have it changed but my ISP's process is so difficult I can't figure it out. Can I get a second email address? Preferably a free one because this computer is costing a fortune as it is. Would I have to report this second address to my ISP? I hate dealing with those people! I'd be so grateful for any help. I'm starting to think getting this computer was the worst mistake I ever made.

50th Anniversary Party Favors

My friends and I are planning a surprise 50th anniversary for another couple of friends. We're having it at a a very casual restaurant on the river. Does anyone have any ideas for cute simple place cards/favors to put at each seat? Maybe something we could put a few mints or other little items in. Nothing fancy because it will be quite casual.

Thanks for any ideas.

Cleaning Dog Saliva from Microfiber Couch

My dog loves to take his chew toys onto my microfiber couch. Unfortunately, his saliva makes the couch wet and it seems like it has matted down the microfiber. Now I have whitish stains on my chocolate brown couch, and the fiber is matted down. A friend of mine washes her microfiber cushion covers in the washing machine. That just seems like it would mat down the fibers even more. Does anyone have thoughts or suggestions on this?

Review of Dollar Tree Inkjet Refills

Yesterday at the "Dollar Tree" I saw refills for inkjets. Has anyone tried these? Are they any good? Is it hard to do, the instructions were kind of vague. What does it mean, "run through the cleaning cycle"? My printer came with no instructions. I'd appreciate any feedback -- inkjets are costing me a fortune!

Holiday Craft Ideas For Fourth Grade

This year I am homeroom mother for fourth graders. Really need some game/craft suggestions for upcoming Halloween party. Our school has a rule that we must use prepackaged snacks so that will be easy, BUT would love some ideas on, games or crafts that would be easy, inexpensive, and would hold the attention of fourth graders.

Also if you have any ideas for Christmas and Valentine parties.

Thanks
