Melt chocolate and set aside to cool. Cream butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla until fluffy, about 5 minutes. Blend in cooled chocolate. Sift together flour, soda and salt. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with ice water, beating well after each addition. Bake in 2 waxed paper-lined, 9 inch round pans at 350 degrees F for 30-35 minutes. Frost with Chocolate Fortune Frosting.
Melt chocolate in mixing bowl over hot water. Remove from heat and blend in sugar and water. Beat in egg; add butter and vanilla. Frosting will be thin at this point, so place bowl in ice water and beat until it is of spreading consistency.
