If they are metal, use paint made for metal, such as Rustoleum. I had antique brass looking pulls (of cheap white metal not real brass) and I painted them with "hammered gold" Rustoleum. That was four or five years ago & they are wearing well.

Remove them and spray with paint in the can. Do something different from what they are now--black or silver metallic are modern choices and go with almost everything.
