I'd recommend you determine which effect you want first....and then get the instructions for it. There are so many different ways to paint!
An idea: go to a local used book store or even your Borders book store and check out the decorating section. That's where I got my collection of painting books. One of my favorite books was a "bargain" book!
Call Home Depot and Lowes and ask someone in the paint department. These home improvement stores have classes for beginners.
