Does anyone know of a way to get nail polish off of leather furniture? My son dumped a whole bottle on the couch.

You may be screwed. I would try wetting the area around the spot with "Neatsfoot" oil, a leather preservative. The idea would be to apply until the leather under the spot became saturated, hopefully destroying the bond and allowing you to carefully pick the dried nail polish off. You may be able to find matching leather dye to touch-up. (05/15/2009)

Get the polish and paint a new coat on the stain (dried up polish) and wipe off the coat (you applied over the stain) before it dries, gently. (01/30/2009)

My daughter had got nail varnish on my black leather chair, put a little hairspray on a cloth rub gently and its gone. It didn't damage my furniture in any way. The furniture was a little sticky afterwards but I used a little leather cleaner and its now fine. (03/28/2008)

Dab a little bit of nail polish remover. But make sure not to rub otherwise the leather will come off. Hope this helps! (04/04/2008)

I've just spilled clear nail varnish over my boyfriends mothers leather sofa. My instant reaction was to wipe it, which took the color off and has left a smeary white mark. The sofa is pale green so it's not too obvious but she has eyes like a hawk.
Does anyone have anything that could help? Other than for me to leave the country?

I tried 100% acetone and it will take off the polish, but it left my black leather ottoman looking dull. So it is noticeable, but better than bright pink nail polish. Also I tried rubbing alcohol first and that was almost worse taking off the black. (01/21/2008)

First, dab acetone (or a non-oily fingernail polish remover) on an inconspicuous area of the leather to test for colorfastness and to make sure no damage occurs. If there's no damage sponge the stained area with the acetone (or polish remover) until no more color is being removed. If acetone damages the surface, use amyl acetate instead. If this doesn't work, sponge with alcohol (test first). Hope This Works. (03/17/2006)
