RE: Nail Polish on Leather Furniture

Thanks Julie, hairspray really did work. I've had a couple of blobs of nail varnish courtesy of my daughter on my leather sofa for months now, nothing gets rid of it, the hairspray and gentle rubbing worked. ++++++++++++++++++++

Dab a little bit of nail polish remover. But make sure not to rub otherwise the leather will come off. Hope this helps!

This does really work my daughter had got nail varnish on my black leather chair, put a little hairspray on a cloth rub gently and its gone. It didn't damage my furniture in any way. The furniture was a little sticky afterwards but I used a little leather cleaner and its now fine.

Help I just finished visiting the nail salon where I broke a bottle of brown nail polish on my new black leather COACH BOOTS WHICH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE and don't know how to remove the polish without ruining my boots.

I've just spilled clear nail varnish over my boyfriends mothers leather sofa. My instant reaction was to wipe it, which took the color off and has left a smeary white mark. The sofa is pale green so it's not too obvious but she has eyes like a hawk. Does anyone have anything that could help? Other than for me to leave the country? Jess from West Sussex

I tried 100% acetone and it will take off the polish, but it left my black leather ottoman looking dull. So it is noticeable, but better than bright pink nail polish. Also I tried rubbing alcohol first and that was almost worse taking off the black. (01/21/2008)

RE: Nail Polish on a Leather Suite

First, dab acetone (or a non-oily fingernail polish remover) on an inconspicuous area of the leather to test for colorfastness and to make sure no damage occurs. If there's no damage sponge the stained area with the acetone (or polish remover) until no more color is being removed. If acetone damages the surface, use amyl acetate instead. If this doesn't work, sponge with alcohol (test first). Hope This Works. (03/17/2006)
