Chewy Banana Pie

Crust

(or 1 baked pie shell)

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 cups vanilla wafers (about 60), crumbled
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar

Directions

Melt 1/2 cup butter; toss with wafer crumbs. Press into a 9 inch pie plate. In small bowl cream remaining butter, beat in powdered sugar until mixed and spread over crust.

Filling

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whipping cream or topping
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 large firm banana, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup maraschino cherries, cut up
  • additional whipped topping
  • chocolate curls
  • cherries

Directions

Beat topping, sugar and cocoa until stiff peaks form. Fold in the walnuts, banana and cherries. Spoon into crust. Refrigerate 8 hours or overnight. Garnish the edges with topping chocolate curls and cherries. This tastes similar to a banana split.
