"Feed me a little less please. My name is Itsey"

I moved into a house snd needed an extremely wide drapery rod for wide windows (over 120 inches) and they would have to be custom ordered and very expensive.
Instead, I bought drapery 2 rod finials (the ends) for $6 each, 3 drapery holder/brackets for $4 each and 103 inches of PVC pipe (for $3.50). I hot glued a styrofoam plug into the ends of the PVC pipe and screwed the finials into each end of the PVC pipe stuffed with styrofoam. Then I painted the "rod", finials and the brackets with a silver metalic paint and they look like they are made out a brushed stainless steel.
You could use black paint or a wood tone or any color to match your decor. This rod can be used with drapes or swags. In fact, it could even be recycled by changing the color or the finials used.
I spent less than $30.00 and saved hundreds. And they look great.

Sam (Rat Terrier) and Riley (Golden Retriever)
This is our Rat Terrier, Sam. He's from just outside Chicago and is 4 months old. He's already made good friends with Riley, our Golden Retriever. They play quite a bit outside and inside, Sam tries to eat Riley's food when Riley's not looking. In this picture, they are both about to have a snooze. A handsome pair, don't you agree?

Fleece Doll Bunny Slippers
By Shauna Smith Duty
This simple no-sew project promises to keep a baby doll's feet toasty during winter months. You can do this project in conjunction with the Baby Doll Blanket for a original gift set that little girls will treasure.
What you'll need:
Roll the outside corners of one square of fleece inward so that two rolls meet in the center. Fold one end of the roll inward so that the ends are uneven by 1". Fold both ends back again and secure them with a rubber band. Spread the outer pocket of the longer end out to form a bunny face.
Twist the face and ears so that they will sit upward when the doll's foot is inserted into the slipper. Unroll the body of the bunny to form the sole of the slipper.
Tie a satin ribbon around the bunny's neck to hide the rubber band, and sew or glue two beads onto the face as eyes. Repeat to make the second slipper.

Precious Destiny (Tortoise Shell Cat)
Precious Destiny is a 5 1/2 month old Tortoiseshell (Tortie). Here is how I got her. It's kind of a long story, but I'll make it short.
I had a dog and we had to put it down, which was very sad. I had been trying to bring another pet home but my mom didn't want another pet. I went to a county fair and there were kittens in a crate - they were selling them for a dollar, however, I got it free because they were just trying to get rid of them. I came home with Destiny and my mom was starting to protest when she saw Destiny just looking at her with big beautiful cat eyes. Needless to say, she (my mom) loves Destiny now and we kept her.
Destiny loves to hide and when anyone walks past, she pounces out on two legs - it can be kind of dangerous because we almost trip over her but it's so funny to see her leap like that. She just loves to play, and she loves cuddling.
I love Destiny so much, I don't know where I would be without her, she really filled in a hole in my heart from when I lost my dog. She's an angel.

Fleece Doll Blanket
By Shauna Smith Duty
This simple no-sew blanket project is great for babies or baby dolls. Do this project in conjunction with the Doll Bunny Slippers as an original gift for little girls who love their dolls. It can also be adapted to a larger scale for lap blankets.
What you'll need:
Trim the fleece squares so that they are even on all sides, and keep them stacked on top of one another throughout the project. Cut a 1"x1" square from the four corners of the fabric.
Make fringe on all four sides, through both layers of fabric, by cutting 1 1/2" slits 1/2" apart.
Tie a section of the bottom fringe to the correlating top fringe in a knot. Repeat this step until all of the fringe is tied.
For a nice presentation, line up all the knots so that the bows are in a straight row on all sides, then fold the blanket in half and roll it into a cylinder.
Tie the rolled blanket with a satin ribbon. For a personal touch, cross-stitch the doll's name on a 2"x4" rectangle, sew bias tape around the perimeter of the rectangle to seal the edges, and stitch the name plate onto the corner of the blanket.
Your doll lover will be impressed!

If you make soup and it comes out too sweet, just add a little salt or a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to it.

Remove excess grease from soups and stews by putting a lettuce leaf in it. Let the lettuce leaf absorb some of the grease and then toss it. You can put a few ice cubes in your soap and stir them around a bit. Then quickly remove them before they melt. Fat will stick to the sides of the ice cubes.

Organizing Serving Bowls, Platters and Utensils
As I get out the dishes for the holiday dinners, I also take out the serving bowls and utensils I will need. I put a little note in each bowl, i.e. cranberries, stuffing. etc. so when I am serving up food I don't have to fumble around finding the right size bowl at the last minute.

The holidays are known for causing stress on folks. Remember to take timeout for yourself, as well as those you love and to those you feel obligated to. Stress can affect people in many different ways. Remember to take deep breath a few times a day. Let your mind drift away to some exotic destination. It does wonders to clear your mind.

Paint Color To Go With Black Cabinets
I have formica kitchen cabinets from the 1970's which are a dark brown woodgrain. I am thinking of painting them black and adding pewter or nickel knobs. Have you seen this done? What color would you suggest for the walls? I am leaning toward a creamy gold, moss green, or khaki.
Thanks,

Has anyone ever used a "stain or tint" make-up. I have a bottle (looks just like a nail polish bottle) however I can't read any of the words on it anymore. I think it came from the Color Institute however I can't find anything about it on the web site.
I remember it said something about lip or cheek tint. It's a dark rose color in the bottle and I believe it smells like roses. It truly stains a natural pink tone where ever you apply it, even your fingers are stained for a while after you rub it in. It stays on a long time. Has anyone ever heard of this? I would love to find out if I can make something similar at home.

Cleaning Plastic Off An Oven Rack
Boy did I make a mess. I forgot I had a plastic cake pan in my oven. Turned the oven on and the thing melted all over my rack. How do I get it off? It's on there as hard as a rock. It stands to reason that if I heat it up, it will melt but I'm not going to put it back in my oven to melt it. What an awful smell. Took a few days to get the smell out.
Any ideas?

Does anyone have a good recipe for the little mini cherry tassies? It's like a Pecan Tassie but in the little crust you put cherry and then icing on the top. I know the crust recipe for the cherry one is different. If you have the recipe please let me know. Thanks and let me know of any other good Christmas cookie recipes you have too!

Smell Left After Dryer Caught Fire
A few months ago our dryer kinda caught on fire. It started to smoke really badly. When the repair guy came, he found over a pound of lint behind the drum. Apparently the people who rented the place before us NEVER cleaned the lint trap. Well, the apartment owners refuse to replace the dryer. We're stuck with clothes that smell smokey and an apartment that smells like old cigars (and we're all non-smokers). I've tried vinigar and Febreeze. Does anyone have suggestions of what I can do to get rid of the smell?
Thank you!

Cleaning a Painted Linoleum Floor
I have a painted linoleum floor in my bathroom that just won't get clean around the edges with regular mopping. I've tried one heavy-duty cleaner, with no luck. I'm almost ready to just paint it over, but I worry about painting over dirt. Any suggestions?

Soy: The Magic Bean
By Ellen Brown
It would come as no surprise if the magic beans planted in the "Jack and the Bean Stalk" fairytale were soybeans. The versatile virtues Mother Nature has bestowed on this one legume are far reaching indeed. From food products to building products, the uses for soybeans seem almost unlimited. If you're looking for a new garden crop that is easy to grow and offers a high nutritional rate of return, consider planting some "magic" beans in next year's garden.
