Juice Pouch Gift Bag
By Stella Rivet

This gift bag is easy to make and durable. It makes good use of Kool-Jammer or Capri Sun pouches. It's very similar to the lunch bag I published in the past but instead of a velcro enclosure, it uses eyelets and ribbon to make a gift bag handle. It's a bit of work, but it makes an extra special gift bag that can be reused as a purse.

3 Friends - Sammi (PekePoo) Tinkerbell (Cockatiel) and Snowbell (Cat)

I was amazed to see the bird content to be so close to the dog, on the back of the couch...I grabbed the camera to capture Sammi, our PekePoo and Tinkerbell our Lutino Cockatiel and immediately upon framing UP POPPED Snowbell, our cat. I did not know he was even in the room!

Saving on Wrapping Paper

A few years ago my husband and I decided we were not wasting any more wrapping paper at Christmas time. It seems such a waste of money and natural resources to be throwing all that wrap out. So, I went to Costco and bought a big package of gift bags and tissue paper. We use these bags over and over again, year after year. There is just the two of us at home so we use those bags for gifts to each other and then carefully fold them back up for another year. We also have gotten the family into it and we pass around gift bags for birthdays that have been going back and forth for years now. I love not having the big garbage bag of wrap and the guilt over wasting so much. It now costs us nothing to wrap our gifts too!!

For the teenage drivers on your gift list (or anyone else), this holiday season, giving gift cards or gift certificates for the local gas station would be welcomed greatly.

Organizing Your Photos

In your snapshots or photographs, be sure to label or identify on the back, who are in the picture, the date or year when it was taken. Upon your demise, others will know who to pass on your photos to.

Keeping Margarine Ready for Baking Cookies

I never know when the urge to bake cookies will hit me these days, so I leave the box with the sticks of margarine out of the fridge on the counter so it is soft when I'm ready to use it. Margarine doesn't spoil easily over a short period of time because its made of veg. oil-not milk.

Car Buying Tip 3 - Set a Budget

Know what you can afford before you visit the dealership to buy! This means talk to your personal banker or credit union officer before going to the dealership. Why? Some dealerships might actually WANT you to sign on for a more expensive car than you can afford so that you will then default on your loan and they will repossess the car.

Preventing Your Car From Rolling Over

When driving, if you were to drop off the blacktop and there is no shoulder on the roadway, try not jerk the vehicle back onto the roadway. You'll be better off riding the vehicle off in the direction you were headed, as most chances, you'll cause your vehicle to roll over. It would be better to have a few things wrong with your vehicle than to total it out completely. Be Safe!

Backing Your Quilts

I make many quilts for charities, as well as for other gifts. The perfect backing is a sheet. Twin size is the right size for the quilts our church makes for charities. Or you can buy a larger one on sale and use the extra for part of the pattern on the top of the quilt. I find twin sheets as low as $3.00 and they are a nice quality.

Powder Carpet Freshener Stains

I spot cleaned some areas on my carpet and then sprinkled down some carpet freshener and vacuumed it up, but when the spots dried there were white rings around the spots. Does anyone know how I can get these out? I tried cleaning the area again with a rug shampooer.

Cranberry Walnut Pie?

A friend is looking for the following, is there anyone out there who might have this recipe?

"I was wondering if you have ever heard of the recipe where you take cranberries and walnuts and dump them in a pie dish, then mix up a batter and pour it over it and then bake? I know my Nana used to call it her cranberry walnut dump pie but I can't find it anywhere. Thanks"

Illinois Christmas Charities

Will someone please direct me to where I can get Christmas help (gifts) for my family and financial aid for continuing education. A couple of years ago I had major surgery and exhausted all sick time. As a result of a long recovery and not working we were hurt severly financially. Everything not paid for was put in jeopardy. A year after the first surgery I had another and 2 months later I was laid off.

Me and my kids mother have been trying to convince our kids of the real meaning of Thanksgiving and Christmas because the true meanings should be practiced but also because as it looks right now my 5 kids and their mom will not have any gifts this year. I dont know how to bear it. Direction and help needed urgently.

Has anyone used this service? If so what has your experience with this neat ministry?

Color to go With Dark Green Tile

I don't know what color to paint my kitchen/dining room combination. The floor is dark hunter green tile, the counter tops are also dark green. The cabinets are medium oak stained. Right now the walls (or the whole interior) is painted antique white. I want different colors but I don't know what would really look good with my colors. The hallway and the living room walls would be visible from the kitchen.

Anyone have any ideas? I thought about burgundy but I don't know how it will blend with the rest of the rooms.

Tennessee Christmas Charities

I was a construction worker for 30+ years until I had an accident. The scallfolding on which I was working collasped and I fell 30 feet and landed head first. I was unable to continue earning a living in construction but did not wish to draw disability yet. I have entered college and I am trying to get by on student loans but due to prior bills and my family of three this next to impossible. Young people just starting out going to college do not have as many monetary responsibiblities as an older student with a family.

To make matters worse I have been diagnosied with diabetes and just a few years earlier our house burned and we basically got shafted by the insurance which never paid us a dime. I think the insurance took advantage of my diminished mental state after my fall which luckily for me has improved dramatically since then. I really don't know what to do except just ask for help if there is anyone who reads this and can offer help It would be greatly appreciated, and if you can't, well God bless you for your caring heart.

Indiana Christmas Charities

I need a Christmas Angel to help make Christmas for my 2 sons, we are just getting by with paying the bills and basic living things week to week, and unable too, if anyone can help make a 14 and 16 year old boys have a better Christmas this year please help. They have been through a lot the past 2 years with dealing with 15 deaths in our family and the last one was their great grandma who our youngest found at her home after having a stroke and didn't make it, and 2 of them were 16 year old girl cousins which were hard on them.

Last year we were out of work and it was too late for any help so they didn't have a good Christmas a lady friend gave them a gift card for $25.00 and a box of candy. Their father is self employed, but is slow, just started a part-time job this past week but is behind on everything, we live with their grandmother since we lost our home 5 years ago, but she is unable to help due to being disabled and so many medicines she has to get and her own bills. I care for her and both of my sons have medical problems, the oldest one will have to have open heart surgery to fix a heart valve leaking, and youngest is ADHD/autism so I stay at home to be there for him and his grandma.

All I would like to see is that they can forget about all the deaths and everything and to see them smile and happy on Christmas Day.

If there is a Angel out there please let me know.

God bless You all.

Jan from Sheridan, IN

Please post charities (and their contact information, if possible) that offer help during the holiday season in Indiana.

Forcing Bulbs in Winter
By Ellen Brown

Nothing beats a pot of brightly colored flowers in the middle of the winter blues. Although October is typically the month when gardeners pot bulbs for forcing winter blooms, if you didn't, don't worry, it's not too late. Plant a variety of bulbs right now and you could be blooming from ear to ear just in time for Valentine's Day.
