Pencil Shavings in Plant Soil

Next time you empty your pencil sharpener, toss the shavings around any any plants that might have bugs. Mix the shavings into the soil at the base of the plant. Most pencils are made from cedar, and the bugs don't like the smell.

Lead pencils, of course, contain no lead. The writing medium is graphite, a form of carbon.

I agree with the others about the lead in the pencils causing problems for you, especially if you have small children. You might want to try the bagged cedar shavings from the pet department. They are cedar. You can also put them in your closets in a bag with holes to keep away moths. I also make my dog a bed and stuff some in it because fleas don't like the smell of cedar.

Good idea just don't put it where anything you would eat be because of the lead. Flowers would be fine for you don't eat them.

Would the lead from the pencils be a problem? Just asking.
