I am getting married and would like to purchase a used wedding dress. Any ideas? Post your feedback here.

Note: Please do not post requests for buying or selling specific dresses here. Ebay, craigslist and freecycle are good sites in which to post that information.

Thrift Stores Or Clearance Sections

Goodwill and Salvation Army often carry wedding dresses. Also, ask the local wedding places if they have any dresses on clearance. That's how I found mine for $100 at a wedding place and with alterations I needed, I only spent 350.00 but I also bought a veil and had my dress bustled in the back. Check your local papers too.

Good luck

Rent It!

How about renting one, We think we need it forever but we really don't. I would look at second hand stores or goodwill. Do you have a friend who could embellish one if you find one that looks too plain? Good luck!

Ebay

I would recommend looking at ebay if you are able to... you can find just about anything on there... and you decide how much you want to pay!! I love it :)

Ebay Want It Now Ad

ebay has a "want it now" department where you can post an ad for the wedding dress. If someone lists a dress in the size and color you want, they will e-mail you and let you know.

Worth a try? Good luck!

You could also run an ad in a local newspaper or check with your local consignment shop.

Thrift Stores

I would check your local thrift shops. I have one in my area that has a whole room of prom gowns, wedding dresses and other formal dresses even for the mother of the bride. It also has several accessories that you can use like veils, gloves, etc. Maybe your area has one like that. If not, I would check listings in my local paper. Sometimes there are ads for them. Another place to try would be a Freecycle group in your area. You can ask for exactly what you want and if there is any member who has what you want, it is absolutely free! Good luck!

Goodwill

I can't say enough about purchasing used clothing at your local Goodwill Stores. They are very reasonable and usually are in great condition. Connie from Ballwin

Salvation Army

Yes go to the Salvation Army where the upper class people are that way you can still get it for a steal an quality you pay no more than 20 dollars for it an its proberly worth a thousand

RE: Finding a Used Wedding Dress

Since you're on such a tight budget, the Fairytale Dreams Program offers free wedding and prom gowns to women and girls who coudln't otherwise afford one for their special day.

Craigslist

Lots of people suggested going to Goodwill or ebay and I have one more suggestion - craigslist! I have been looking for a dress for my upcoming wedding and lots of people in CA post their dresses on http://www.craigslist.com. I don't know if craigslist is popular in SC. The great part is the seller usually lives close enough to you that you can see the dress and try it on before buying it.

Consignment Stores

No one has mentioned here that you can buy them at clothing consignment stores. My daughter bought her's there for $125.00. It's full length, very long train with lace sleeves, such detail. Just look in your yellow pages for consigment clothing and even drive to towns around your area if you need to searching. It's worth it to save that extra money. Most the time they have a section or rack geared just for the wedding needs from dresses to veils, gloves etc. Most people who needed money fast sold them already to the consigment stores or have them there and get there 50% take when sold. Some of those stores even offer time payment plans so you can pay it off little by little if you are hurting for forking out your total money right then. And when you are finished with your dress on your special day, just resell it back to the consignment store. You will not get your full amount back you had to pay for it but you will have some money in your hand. Most often, the dress stays in the closet for years, never worn for any occassion. Besides, you'll have your photos to show of your beautiful day.

Trust In God

I can't seem to find a dress. I just started looking. I'm getting married in 3 months. I just know God will provide.

I live in Houston, TX, USA and there are several stores called 'Baubles and Beads" and I've seen beautiful wedding gowns there, as well as evening gowns, fur coats, regular clothes, designer clothes, designer handbags, shoes, sandals, boots, and so much more. They don't accept junky clothes, but you might find some pilling or fading on the clothes.

There's a place here where you can rent (!) designer gowns and clothing. I don't know if they have wedding gowns, but it's worth a shot.
it's called Rental Couture; www.rentalcouture.com; 713-523-4954.

There's a resale shop magazine called 'Resale Houson Magazine; www.resalehouston.com.

Also, try using Google or your local White/Yellow pages under 'resale shops'.

Resale shops are the very first and practically only place I shop now. I get beautifully made clothing at really inexpensive prices. When I do go to department stores, I usually walk out empty handed because I know I can buy better made and cheaper clothing at the resale shops.

Congratulations and best of luck to you both.

I have a used wedding gown..actually it was never used and still has the tags on it and matching purse. I purchased it for $599 and the chrinolin for $60. It's in PERFECT condition and also comes with ring pillow (as well as purse and chrinolin) if you'd like to purchase from me. I'm selling for $295. If so, you can email me at keescott AT hotmail.com. Thanks! Congrats on the wedding!

I'm selling my dress. A strapless organza gown highlighted with alencon lace throughout. The bodice is featured with Swarovski crystal and the bust line is accented with an elegant style of vertical organza pleats. This beautiful new generation mermaid gown is complemented by a corset back and Cathedral train and a fringed edge all around the scalloped edge of this lovely gown. I purchased this dress for $1300, but I will sell it for only $1000. I also purchased a custom made bolero for the dress for $250, but I will sell it with the dress for $100. I will also throw in my custom made veil for only $25. This is a BEAUTIFUL dress made by private label. I wore it once but the dress, bolero, and veil are all in perfect condition! Size 8. Email me for pictures at jenniems31 AT yahoo.com.

Here's another vote for PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com. I bought a Melissa Sweet dress from the nicest woman. The dress fit perfectly - and I saved over $2000. I highly recommend it!

http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com has by far the largest selection of new and used wedding dresses. They even have some sample wedding gowns. You're sure to find something there. They have gowns from $100 up to the really high end stuff. Good luck.

Hi,

I thought I'd mention a new website I started which is an online bridal gown consignment store which is free to buyers and sellers. The idea is along the lines of craigslist, but custom tailored to brides. I thought you might be interested in checking it out. It's www.smartbride.net. It's really new, so we're just populating with dresses at this time.

:-)

I just found a brand new Website called TheDressList.com that has used wedding dresses. The listings are local so you should be able to try dresses on.

Just saw a new site: bridalswap.net. You could get a gown by swapping for something else or buy it on that site. I checked out ebay but there are so many dresses there I got dizzy looking!

A good site I found is www.bridalgownsused.com They have very ineqpensive gowns at really cheap prices. Also, everything is clean so you don't have to pay to have the gown dry cleaned.
