RE: Getting Gum Out of a Dryer
Wow you saved my butt lol. I'm an 18 year old collage student who left staying in someones house and forgot gum in my shirt pocket. I found this site and while the house owners were out I did what you said and it worked. Thank you.

RE: Getting Gum Out of a Dryer
Shout out spray and a dryer sheet worked like a charm. I sprayed the dryer with shout, let it sit a few minutes then cleaned with a dryer sheet. I then just wiped down with a damp towel. Very fast and EASY!

RE: Getting Gum Out of a Dryer
Thank you for the advice! I had gum all over the inside of my (new) dryer. I followed the advice of the "Spray and Wash" and the fabric softner sheet. It worked so well and my dryer looks great. Thank you.

I love this sight. I used Glade Fabric and Air and sprayed it into the dryer, let sit for seconds and then used several dryer sheets and scrubbed it right out within 15 minutes. Thanks to you all for your help and advice. I thought my new dryer was wasted.

You are all great! I have to say, I am surprised more men aren't commenting, as we cause the problem. Here is what I did, using your advice:
Definitely don't put WD40 in your dryer - although I love a shot of W on everything for cleaning, I think it will leave some serious smell on the dryer. I spent the morning cleaning a whole pack of dried gum off the dryer using white vinegar and dryer sheets. Basically, pour some white vinegar on the dryer sheet and start wiping... for best results, pour some in and rotate the dryer drum by hand, lettting it soak. Use a soft-bristle brush (like one you use on glasses in the sink) and break up the big stuff. Continue rotating and wiping with the dryer sheets. Use lots of sheets - as they tend to accumulate lots of gum and start breaking down. Finally, I rinsed with some water and wiped down with a Magic eraser. Rinse again - wiping vigorously and feeling with your hand for any additional gum. Finally wipe it all out with a few papertowels. Then, run the first load using some big junk stuff - like towels you dry your car with. Run those through until they look and smell good. I think that it is safe, after that, to run regular clothes through. Thanks everyone for their advice - I just wanted to give back.

RE: Getting Gum Out of a Dryer
I sprayed oxy clean on the gum in my dryer and let it set for 1 minute then I used a dryer sheet to get the gum off. After getting the majority off I finished the job with a Mr Clean magic eraser, worked like a charm.

RE: Getting Gum Out of a Dryer
Thank you so much for the suggestion. My wonderful husband washed and dried his clothes with a pack of gum. My whole dryer's interior was covered in gum. I used an off brand of fabric softener sheet sprayed with an off brand of spray stain remover. It really worked! I was amazed. I took about 20 minutes and it was all off!

Accidentally left gum in my pockets. I warmed up the dryer and sprayed on oxi clean and used a sponge to wipe it away... perfect!

Used clorox stain spray and a dobie sponge (textured) took about 10 min, but full size barrell is gum free. Thanks for the tips!

I wonder if nail polish remover would work on it?

RE: Getting Gum Out of a Dryer
I found that the scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner works really well. Just spray it on section by section and let it sit. I scrubbed it with a textured sponge.

I read this, and used a wet dryer sheet and it worked like a charm. Had a full pack of orbit caked on all the way around and I thought it'd take me an hour at least, and once it got going the sheets worked great I used about 3 on a full size drum.

Didn't have Spray Shout it Out - so used gel - worked like a charm - little bit of rubbing with paper towel and voila - gone!

RE: Getting Gum Out of a Dryer
My husband had a coughdrop in his pocket and it stuck to my nylon dress sock and to the walls of the dryer. I read on this thread to use Shout to get it off-I went for my Shout spray bottle, and I forgot I had refilled it with white vinegar and guess what? It took it off the dryer walls and I mean EASILY! Just used a white paper towel. Threw away the dress sock, though.

RE: Getting Gum Out of a Dryer
Rubbing alcohol works as well. Put the alcohol on the gum, let it set for about a minute and wipe it off. It takes a little elbow grease but it makes the dryer look shiny and brand new.

Yes, I tried the same solution (wet wash cloth and shout it out) and it came out. Spray the solution on and let it soak for a couple of minutes and wipe it out.

RE: Getting Gum Out of a Dryer
Any form of gum, wheter it be orbit, trident, or doublemint, always turns black in the dryer! The reason being is that the chemical makeup of gum is heated, and the elements are denatured to leave a black sticky residue.

Peanut butter...works every time. Gets gum out of hair, too! Now, if I can just get my family to check their pockets before throwing their clothes in!

RE: Getting Gum Out of a Dryer
My oldest son left a whole pack of gum in his jeans pocket and my brand new dryer was laced with sticky residue! I just used Spot Shot Emergency Stain Wipes. It worked like a charm, took about 5 minutes to clean up and did not leave a strong odor afterward! I swear by it...this will become a regular in my household for the "emergencies" caused by my sons. :)

i just read this forum to see what other people said. i would say that the goof off will give the best results, and in a dryer drum use the new gel goof off for best results. the gel will help to get the drum all the way around clean.

RE: Getting Gum Out of a Dryer
This works to get gum out of carpet, so it should work in other places too: peanut butter. Just spread/smear peanut butter on the gum and it will break the nasty stuff down. (They oughta outlaw that vile substance).
