Aunt Kay
By Kay from Clyde, TX
Hi kay we keep guinea fowl and we feed them the same things that we feed our chooks gueese and ducks. Crushed grain of any type, wheat crushed corn barley, when they are young we feed them Turkey crumble its called here in Australia, or growing pellets for chickens. When they are little we don't let them out for months, as they are quite flighty. They don't really like being in the same pen as other birds. So we house them in a separate pen. We let them out daily and herd them in to there pens at night before dark. Do this from the beginning or they will roost in trees and you will never find their eggs. I only eat their eggs as chook eggs upset my stomach. As far as killing snakes well I think that is an old wives tail, but they will let you know if one is around. Cheers from Australia
I don't think the eat snakes but they would probably scare them away because of the noise they make. Muscovi ducks will kill snakes. I don't know what grassburrs are.
Guineas will eat baby snakes. Not sure about the grass burrs, I woulldn't think so. If you want to get rid of snakes look for a black snake. Black snakes eat all other types of snakes and rodents too. My dad is constantly catching them and putting them under the shed. When the food runs out they head for greener pastures.
Guineas do not eat snakes; just certain insects and pesty ticks. If you want to rid an area of snakes, get a pig.
