All the phones in our house work but they don't ring. Any ideas?

Some older phones have a "Tone/Pulse" switch. It should be on "Tone".

On a technical note... wiring within the telephone jack has an active pair - typically Red and Green - of telephone wires. The Green wire is for the ringing.

Maybe something is loose with the wiring coming TO your house or it could be the wire in each telephone jack.

I've heard that phone companies only provide enough current to operate a specific number of phones, maybe 4 or 5. So I would try unplugging a few and calling your line each time you unplug. There's a call back number you can put into your phone, then hang up and it will ring. I just don't remember how to find that code out!

I remember a few years ago I had that problem. when I called the phone company, they said that having too many phones, answering machines, and the such, can make the difference if a phone will ring. You may want to turn off some of the ringers, or unplug a few and see if that helps.

My mother had something similar happen except her phone only rang once on her end. The person calling her heard it ring repeatedly. The phone company came out and it was a short in the plug to the wall.

Perhaps the ringer is shut off

turn up the volume. Should be on the underside of the phone.
