Grandmother's Lemonade

Ingredients:

  • 6 lemons
  • 6 oranges
  • tea kettle of hot water
  • 2 cups sugar or more
  • 2 gallons of water/ice
  • sweetened lemonade powder mix (I use Country Time)

Directions:

Wash lemons and oranges and slice into rounds. Put in large pan (big enough to hold 2 plus gallons). Add 2 cups of sugar sprinkling over tops of fruit. Add enough hot water to just cover the top and mash with a potato masher. Do that long enough to just mix the sugar and fruit well and release some of pulp/juice. But don't pulverize. Add water and ice to equal about 2 gallons. Stir well. Add a couple cap-fulls of the powdered lemonade mix. Stir well and taste. Add sugar or more lemonade mix if desired. Serve in glass of ice with some of the lemon/orange pieces.

You can make an ice ring with maraschino cherries and lemon/orange slices to add on top. Looks pretty in a punch bowl this way.

Servings: 20 or so depends on size of glass
Time:20 Minutes Preparation Time
5 Minutes Cooking Time

Source: My grandmother and mother have made this as long as I can remember. I added the powdered lemonade mix. Grandma just used a lot more sugar.
