Hello,
We received a note from Harlean that our link for The Family Homestead contained two periods in yesterdays newsletter. Here is the proper link:
http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com
Also thanks to Ann for her correction of our spelling error. We erroneously spelled Bristle, Brissle.
We always appreciate hearing from subscribers, whatever the reason. Please feel free to let us know when we goof up because probably someone else noticed it, too.
Thanks for reading,
Susan

Today's Tips
Vinyl spongy rolls of drawer liner are so much fun. I use them to keep anything and everything where it belongs, such as booster seat on dining chair, pics straight on wall when attached to back of frame, under my keyboard, knick/knacks, telephones, also to keep a mattress from sliding around. Nothing is safe with my scissors and drawer liner. I use it in the shower to keep the soap from falling and it doesn't mold. Use your imagination for travel, picnics, camping, decorating, my pets are next in line for a transformation of their lives but only under things, we wouldn't want the kitties to get their nails caught in it.

A lot of water that goes down the drain can be used to water plants. Water that you use to steam vegetables, cook potatoes or boil eggs can be reused to water your plants. Also, when you clean out your aquarium you can use that water to water your plants.

I have a solution for refilling the Swiffer Wet Jet soap solution.
As the lid is sealed on, I used a large turkey basting syringe used to inject flavoring into turkeys.
Fill it with 2 "shots" of my favorite floor soap in the existing hole .. Then I filled the rest with water.
I have refilled it 4 times with the original bottle. Hope this helps!

The following three tips are from our archive.
When washing your windows mix equal parts vinegar and water to use as a cleaner and then use newspaper to dry. Cuts dirty glass much easier and doesn`t leave streak marks. Works inside or outside. It's less expensive and using the paper is more ecological too.

Birch Shavings as Rabbit Litter
Our daughter is 10 and raises rabbits. We used to use kitty litter in their cages, but when our warren got to 16 rabbits, I was easily spending $30 a month on stuff for the rabbits to eliminate on. Another breeder introduced me to using birch shavings in the under-trays, instead. It smells nice and instead of claying up our compost bin, we now have something that breaks down easily. We even use it raw in our flower garden, and our flowers have never looked better!

When sewing on buttons, especially on heavy jackets, use dental floss or 4 strands of thread that has been waxed with beeswax. This will make the button threads much stronger.

Featured Feedback: RE: Blanching Peppers?
Hi!
I don't know what the book says about this, but I freeze bell peppers all the time with no blanching. I just remove the seeds and either freeze them whole for future use for stuffed peppers, or chop them and pack them into zip lock bags and freeze them. Then if I need a few for a stir fry or to add to any recipe, just flex the bag to loosen the chopped peppers and use what you need, and reseal the bag and return it to the freezer. I always grab up all the marked down peppers I can find at the supermarket.
Harlean from Arkansas.
P.S. I believe this method would work for any kind of peppers.

Featured Feedback: RE: Removing Grease Stains from Clothing
If you get grease stains while cooking/eating, try sprinkling with cornstarch..let it absorb the stain, brush away, then add dishwashing liquid... BTW GREEN dishwashing liquid will remove black grease from clothes.

by Jerrold Mundis
Millions of consumers have become trapped in a spiral of debt, but there is hope. If you wants to free yourself from the shackles of debt, this book is for you--it can help you "get out of debt, stay out of debt, and live prosperously." Jerrold Mundis writes in a friendly, engaging style, urging readers to stop the cycle of spending. Mundis knows what he's talking about--he, too, was once thousands of dollars in debt and didn't know where to turn. Anecdotes from Debtors Anonymous folks, plus multiple examples from the writer's own life and ledgers, make How to Get Out of Debt an encouraging read, not a condescending one. Once you start your program, you may want to periodically reread some chapters for inspiration--and fun. -Amazon.com

Can You Refill Plug-in Air Fresheners?
My wife asked if I could find a way to refill plug-in air fresheners (Wallflower brand). The packaging indicates that they contain essential oils but I'm unwilling to simply experiment with a potential fire hazard. Does anyone have a "recipe" for the contents of these air fresheners?

What do you think of MLM businesses? I have been approached by an IBO. As much as I'd like to do it, I am still ambivalent. In addition, it's hard to do in-depth business research on the net. The stories might be true or not. I want hard reliable evidence so that I can be sure that the business would be good for me. Lorena
