This is not my pet, but sweet nonetheless! This is a 2 month old calf. I took my kids to a local historic farm and this sweet baby cow was sleeping, despite all the children clamoring the fences to get a better look!

Annika and Garth (Husky-German Shepard Mix/Beagle Mix)

Annika is a year and 3 month old Husky/German Shepard mix. Garth is about 4 or 5 years old and is a beagle mix. Annika came from my brother who after getting her realized he is not a dog person. We adopted Garth from our local no kill shelter. They love to play with each other and the cat.

Craft Project: Berry Basket Gift Basket

A great way to recycle plastic berry baskets is to transform them into festive containers for treats. Look for the baskets in a variety of bright colors at supermarkets. Fill with dad's favorite treats for a "sweet" Father's Day gift.

Dakota's Garden

My best tip, garden with your children or grandchildren. Dakota is 2 and we have fixed him a place to plant the better boy tomatoes he picked out and he planted 2 marigolds to help keep the bugs away.

Today's Tips:

Use Shoe Polish to Hide Scratches on Laminate Flooring

My laminate flooring had some nicks and scratches that have accumulated over the years. The other night, I took some regular brown shoe polish and rubbed it in the scratches and buffed it off. I did several layers and continued to buff, and it was like magic! It worked very well and the scratches were almost entirely invisible It sure was an inexpensive remedy!

Save Rose Petals For Future Wedding

For all you brides or hopeless romantics... Begin saving rose petals from your bridal bouquet and from any other bouquet your beloved gives you through the years.

To dry, break or cut the rose bud or flower from the stem and lay on a paper plate in a single layer. Turn the flowers over several times over a few weeks so all surfaces are exposed to the air. Once COMPLETELY dry place in a zip lock bag (failure to dry completely will result in moldy flowers). Store carefully so as not to crush.

When your dear daughters marry their flower girls can toss those rose petals passing on a legacy of love.

Use Waxed Paper To Lower Summer Cooling Costs

At any Lowe's or hardware store, you can purchase tinted window film to help prevent sun from entering into your house and running the air conditioner constantly OR you can do as we have and save money.

Tape cut sheets of waxed paper that you have custom cut to fit all of your different sized windows. You will find that waxed paper blocks the sun's heat from coming into the room BUT plenty of light is still coming through from the sun itself. A roll of waxed paper is more "costwise: in my book than having to purchase window tinting film that is hard to install if not impossible to work with.

We live in a Mobile Home that sits in full sun all day, I crack or open the windows on the side of the house that doesn't get much sun and turn the heat pumps FAN ONLY on. This way air is pulled in from the outside and circulates the air with in the house keeping us cool. Moving air keeps you cooler then stagnant non- circulating air does AND this works even if there is no wind at all outside! It does not cost a lot to run THE FAN ONLY on your unit, perhaps only pennies a day.

Clean Your Blow Dryer When It Stops Working

When your blow dryer suddenly stops working, clean the lint out of the vents on all sides with an old dry toothbrush. Lint that doesn't come out can be picked out with tweezers. Vacuum the vents with the hose part of your vacuum cleaner. Your blow dryer should start right back up and will last for several more months. Care and cleaning of the vents will make your blow dryer last a lot longer and you won't have to replace it as often saving you money and a trip to the store!

Donate Clothing and Toiletries to Women's Shelters

This is a tip if you're into coupons, rebates, store good deals, buying in bulk, and have yard or garage sales. If you have items left over such as clothing, toiletries, makeup, etc., donate them to your local abused women's shelter. They're all trying to get their life back on track without their abusive husbands. Your donations will truly make a difference. Makeup really helps them starting to feel better about themselves. This might be something that you might consider and take it off your taxes as a donation. Make yourself feel better as well as some other ladies.

Using Cheaper Cuts of Meat

With the cost of fuel cutting away at our food budget, we have been buying less expensive cuts of meat and looking for innovative ways to serve them. I found that a tougher piece of meat can be pan fried, cut into smallish pieces, and then run through our small food processor to produce a coarse pate which can then be mixed with minced onions, flavorings and a favorite salad dressing to make a delicious sandwich spread. It really makes a piece of otherwise challenging meat into a delicious and easy meal ingredient when served on bread with condiments, and there is plenty of room to experiment with your own flavorings.

Healthy Living Tips To Keep Weight Off

I've been slim for about 10 years (of course with a few ups and downs!) and have just realized that there are a lot of things I have been doing over the years automatically to help keep my weight down. I don't exercise but I do try to walk places and go up stairs when I can. My food eating habits are what really changed. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Cut Out Dairy (or Cut Down): When I became vegan (basically I don't eat any animal products), I noticed that when I cut the dairy out of my diet the pounds dropped like crazy. There are amazing substitutes for dairy products. They take time getting used to but when you see how you look and feel it'll be hard to go back! If you can't quit dairy, cut down. It's amazing how dairy can pack on the pounds!
  • Eat High Cocoa Content Dark Chocolate: I eat chocolate every day. Usually 1 square, sometimes two. I get the expensive organic DARK stuff that has about 15 squares which last me almost two weeks. I find that after one of the really dark pieces, I don't want more as the high cocoa content helps my craving! Same goes for coffee, once you have a really strong cup it's unlikely you'll want 5 of them. Some companies have incredible fun chocolate bars like http://www.zazubean.com or http://www.dagobachocolate.com or http://www.greenandblacks.com/. I like Zazubean because they have one called Lunatic for women with herbs to help with PMS :)
  • Make Your Own Popcorn Bags: I started eating the 100 calorie prepackaged microvave popcorn (mini bags). I eat one in the evening as a snack. After realizing how much I was spending, I decided to make my own. Just put 2 Tbsp of kernels in a paper bag and pop in microwave for a little over a minute. Spray with a little low fat margarine and use nutritional yeast instead of salt to cut down on sodium and up your B vitamin intake!
  • Eat More During The Day And Less At Night: I got used to eating a lot in the morning and throughout the day but have a tiny meal at night followed my a small bag of popcorn for the evening munchies. I don't even think about it anymore, it's something I just do. If I eat too much at night i don't feel good. Listen to your body! :)
  • Eat Less: When going out to eat, ask if you can order from the kids menu. I find the portions are perfect. The adult meals in North American restaurants are way too big. If you're like me, you don't like wasting food so it's hard to leave anything on the plate even if it's too much. If you can't order from the kids menu, take a friend with you and share a meal together..even more fun on a date! Wait 15minutes after eating your meal to see if you are still up for dessert. Usually I end up being too full if I wait and barely ever eat dessert.
Eating right isn't only about losing weight but about overall health. Bad diet can also age a person! I am 38 and am constantly mistaken for a university student! YAY! So spoil yourself, no need for plastic surgery or expensive wrinkle creams. Food heals and makes us beautiful inside and out!

For some yummy vegan recipes:

Enjoy!

Cut Up Veggies For Quick And Healthy Snack

Great for weight conscious people, or children. When I buy my vegetables, such as carrots, bell peppers and such. I immediately wash and cut them up and put them into zip-lock bags in the refrigerator. When I want a snack, I will opt for them rather than sweets or chips.

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

Groan Alert!

Lost on a rainy English evening, a nun stumbles across a monastery and requests shelter there.

Fortunately, she's just in time for dinner and was treated to the best fish and chips she's ever had.

After dinner, she goes into the kitchen to thank the chefs.

She is met by two brothers, "Hello, I'm Brother Michael, and this is Brother Charles."

"I'm very pleased to meet you. I just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful dinner. The fish and chips were the best I've ever tasted. Out of curiosity, I wonder who cooked what?"

Brother Charles replied, "Well, I'm the fish friar."

She turns to Brother Michael and says, "Then you must be...?" "Yes, you guessed it. I'm the chip monk."

I would like to make one of those large cookies that resemble a pizza. Any ideas on how to decorate it to look like a pizza? Not a decorator but I was thinking there must be some easy way to take pre-made candies and make them pizzish looking. Looking For Affordable, Fashionable Children's Clothing

My 8 year old daughter recently started worrying about fashion. We have a store nearby called "Justice For Girls" and she loves clothing from "Limited Too". I love that she is into fashion because of course I was too. But Justice and Limited Too are very expensive. My daughter has always been very petite and extremely skinny so I love that Justice and Limited Too clothing fits her better than any other clothing stores we have tried.

But again with 3 daughters I can't afford their prices. Does anyone have ideas of where I can start looking for the more fashionable clothing without breaking the bank?

My boyfriend lives out of state, and I'm flying down to meet him for an overnight trip. Does anyone have any picnic ideas I can pack and bring with me?

Here's my perimeters: I'm allergic to eggs, dairy and gluten/wheat.

Potty Training A Insecure Puppy

We recently rescued a beagle-terrier mix who is 2 months old. She is a very happy and loving dog in all respects, but for some reason she will only go number 2 outside. She will run around and sniff, but will not pee. As soon as you bring her inside, she will release a flood.

She also will sprinkle whenever my girlfriend tries to put a leash on her, but not when I do it. I have also noticed that she will always try to walk or sit between my feet when I am sitting or standing.

The circumstances as to how she ended up in the shelter is anyones guess, but she seems to be very insecure. I am just wondering if there are any tips or insights out there as to how to handle the potty training.

Dealing With A Picky Eater

My 8 year old son is getting pickier and pickier with food. He used to eat Chicken Nuggets, Grilled Cheese, Mac N Cheese, Cottage Cheese, Burgers and Hot dogs. Now all he wants is pizza.

He refuses the Nuggets saying they are not cooked right (but they are the same as always). Hot dogs he says we burned once and now he will not eat. Burgers, can only be cooked on stove and now he is saying he does not like the taste.

I think he has a thing with textures. All he wants is pizza or sometimes cheese tacos and only Granny Smith Apples. Any suggestions? We do try and make him eat other things but it is a long drawn out fight of wills. Is there a doctor I can take the child to and they would explain to him the importance of eating good? Help, I am so frustrated.

Bulbs Won't Bloom

Question:

Leaves yes, flowers no. Why don't my irises bloom? I have planted well over 35 bulbs in the last few years. Since we don't get a good freeze here, I stored the bulbs in the fridge for a few weeks before planting. They get plenty of water, and have a nice southern exposure. The oldest bulbs come up about February, grow slowly, then die with no flowering. I planted some daffodils this year, and they have spindly stalks and no flowers.

Green Roof Basics
By Ellen Brown

One of the fastest growing green building trends in the U.S. and Canada is the installation of green roofs. That is, systems that use living plant materials as roofing. The idea of green roofs isn't new. The earliest green roofs are thought to date back as far as 500 B.C. However, technological advances are now making the installation of green roof systems practical and affordable for both commercial builders and homeowners alike.
